I reckon we’ve given the big fella a choice, take a wave hair cut or we’re going to have to trade you, surely he knows he isn’t worth the money he’s on, a true team man would do it for the betterment of the side.

I have always only wanted players who WANT to play with Collingwood. If the million dollar man wants to move, we let him and get the best trade for him. Turn this into a win - win situation, or else we will be bent over again.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️

My read is that the club has suggested he canvas his options, he'd be dumb not to.

If he's impressed with what Melbourne has to offer and is open to a move, then the negotiations start. If he's not open, he stays.

I don't see this as a fire sale, we would be wanting quality pick(s) in return, if we mirrored what we did with Treloar then sack everyone in Admin, burn the joint down and start again.

I accept the logic that they think our system can get by without him, so look at dumping some salary cap and getting some good draft picks, but that doesn't mean i like it.

Arguing he should give money back or that we shouldn't have paid him that much is just dumb. We offered, he accepted. It's hard to prove his worth when he's injured and he wasn't the only player to lose form having to live in Covid hubs.

I think there is a price for everyone. If we get good value in return AND arent forced to pay some of his wage then let him go. I just dont see how we get it done to our satisfaction.

If he went to Melbourne we would want the 2 first rounders they get for Jackson and Melbourne pay all his salary. Even then its quite likely that will be about pick 12 and pick 18. I just dont see how we will get what we would expect. If we dont get that, then why trade him. If Cameron gets injured we have Cox and Begg as our ruckmen next year - That just isnt workable
Painful frustrating disappointing exhilarating and unbelievably awesome. - That's a Collingwood life through and through

A lot of people get head hunted and meet with other organisation's. Most don't leave. It's normal practice in business and life. Wouldn't read much into it personally.

This!
Yes, but I've got the patience of a toddler and I'm bitterly jealous of those who excel at something and earn more than me because it makes me feel even more of a loser than I am already. I've staked what's left of my self-worth on Grundy being rubbish; there will be no going back now, even if it leaves everyone worse off, including myself. The sooner you both learn it's all about me and my fragile self-esteem, and nothing to with either Grundy or the club, the better!

That's how I read it too stui. Only a fool would not recognise Grundy as anything but a star of the game. However, my guess is our footy department feel hamstrung by the ridiculously large contract he is on. In light of the good form of Cameron and Cox, with Begg the apprentice, it wouldn't surprise me if Wright has suggested Grundy should seek another club, so we can free up some salary cap to bring in a couple of players which fill particular needs. I suggest it would also send an important message to our whole squad about the risks of putting too much pressure on the club for monster contracts.

I like Grundy and he is clearly a much better ruckman than Cameron or Cox, but he is not irreplaceable. Given that the club has not come out and said that Grundy is a contracted player and won't be going anywhere, I'm more convinced than ever that he'll be elsewhere next year - and we will probably be paying around $300,000 pa of his salary for the next few years. This whole outcome will really be another result of the incompetence of our footy department, dating back 2-3 yrs ago, who agreed to exceptionally large contracts to Treloar, WHE and Grundy. Btw, I suspect this could be WHE's last year with us as well.

Cheers Bruce,

How much do you think WHE is on? He's not in the Herald Suns top 100 list, bottom at 100 is Charlie Dixon on $550-$650.

Moore, Adams, De Goey and Grundy are the only ones on the list.

WHE is out of contract this year, I also wouldn't be surprised if he was moved on, but he's still getting AFL games so he must be considered better at the moment than the young ones in the VFL.

Cheers stui. I really don’t know what sort of coin WHE is on, but I seem to recall he was on a very big contract when we signed him. He is still a good player, but not one deserved of more than around $450,000 pa imho.

Semantics again, but the average wage is around $370k, so I wouldn't quibble over $450 for WHE.

Fly's comments on the Grundy situation were interesting, twitter went straight to saying he's gone.
