I’m sure the club has very good reasons to add this clause in the contract.

They haven’t done it with any other player as far as we know.

They have decided that with this type of length of contract and money he has to deliver and do so without making himself or the club appear in news headlines.

Trust the club on this. I still think 850k a year for him is too much. I would give him two years on 700k and if he fulfils his potential then reassess.

He’s a great player but he goes missing. He needs to fire up the whole year to be earning more than 800k.

BTW, Ronaldo earns double 800k a week. LOL

Why is a performer worth so much more than a nurse or aged care worker? Can anyone explain this morally bankrupt capitalist society to a dumb person like me? Has this always been the case, or has the modern greedy AFL and media contaminated our game to the point where footballers are part of the new western culture Royal elites like the filthy media that promotes this ? I’d tell him to play on our contract terms or go to dumb St Kilda. Have we not learnt anything from the last few years signing huge player contracts ? Build a Team from the bottom up. Forget big ticket individual contracts.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

That’s true except to say that it never bothered Pendlebury to go from year to year, or in the most recent negotiation period, to ask for a two year contract (which he got). De Goey knows he’s an an elite player and could walk to any other club. Five years gives him security if suffers any long term injuries, except to say that clubs often break contracts if a player suffers a long term injury. De Goey lives on the edge in his private life. I don’t see what difference it makes if De Goey goes a one year or two year contract with the morality clauses removed. The only obligation a player has to a club is that they reflect the values and public face of the club. Signing autographs, talking to fans, being available for media interviews is all part of that. However what a player does in their own private lives is none of the club’s business.
There is a 5-year, $5M contract on the table from St Kilda. That's the only reason we extended the length of our offer. De Goey is going to take a 5-year deal, it's just a matter of which of the 2 he accepts.

If I was the moral police.... sounds 100 times worse than what Jordy did in Bali.

Now he is on TV with no stigma attached. What Dick?

Jordy has his misdemeanor sticking like Shiite.
Incorrect, a team mate took it when he was getting dressed, and straight away he asked the guy to delete it, and he believed it had been.

Sign what we have offered or piss off to St Kilda.

We’ll be properly compensated with a high pick (hopefully future) and we can bank it for a key forward next year.

Who is saying he’s making it up? It’s clear today that more and more as adults are being diagnosed.
What I’m saying is, like my 12yo, it is not an excuse for his poor behaviour. It’s a victim mentality and if he truely believes that he will be a victim to his condition his entire life.
The boy needs to grow up.
Where did De Goey say he was using his ADHD as an excuse for his past misbehavior? He only said he was diagnosed with it and was working to improve himself.
Why bring it up if not to use it as an excuse?

Gees guys , imagine top spots on the line and DeGoey drink drives again and gets locked up, you going to feel so generous then? It’s not about Bali or even New York, it’s all of it

Totally agree with you Haff, it’s what I have been saying. And yes 12 year olds understand it. Does he want to play in a team that is right up there? Pay back the faith, sign

We could just get the government to pay everyone $5000 roubles a year (nurses, footy players, teachers, farmers) to live off. Then Jordy would be worth the same as all his team mates (if we still had footy) and all the players at all the other clubs too!
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

Not sure what the current rouble exchange rate is, but otherwise sounds good to me!

I think the Jordy deal is being 'played' by both sides.

The Pies are chasing Mitchell as a way (in part) to put the wind up Jordy's manager while the manager is talking tough around the clause and keeping St Kilda on the hook to get a better deal

My guess is a deal will be done in a few days

Bye JDG

As others have said, you're not reliable on or off the ground.

A chance for Collingwood to stamp culture as a key aspect of our club. Sydney are so respected for their serious culture. Time for us to take a stand.

Macrae has put his arms around JDG and this is the outcome?!

Good bye
Go Pies!!

MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:I actually feel sympathetic towards Jordan De Goey here. Look what happened to him in Bali? Two consenting adults. Now we have character assassinations of Chris Fagan and Alistair Clarkson without any regard for the legal system. Players who participated in the internal Hawthorn investigation are reluctant to give evidence in an AFL enquiry. Meanwhile Fagan and Clarkson are being hung out to dry. Unfortunately we live in a society of trial by media, conviction by innuendo and guilt by association. All De Goey has to do is being seen out with his girlfriend having a good time when someone decides to pick a fight on him and whatever happens, the media will spin it into being all De Goey’s fault.

I don’t blame him at all in being hesitant to sign a long term contract which has a lot of morality clauses in it that no other AFL player is forced to sign. If De Goey says he has ADHD everybody says he’s making it up. When Heater said he had ADHD people were reaching out to him to help him. Jordan De Goey is basically the bad guy. Whatever he says or does it comes out that he’s holding the club to ransom. No one feels sorry for him.

Personally I think he deserves better treatment from the club and the supporters. Unlike Sam Reid, Jordan De Goey played through the pain barrier in our finals series and almost got us into a grand final. I feel sorry for him. If the club doesn’t want to give him a 5 year contact the solution is simple - just pay him year by year. At the end of each year review his situation as to whether he wants to stay or go. His agreement to continue at the club should be a mutual one between player and club.
Hear Hear!! 100%.

Yes

Stay or Go.
It's about weights and balances. Not as clear cut as we read in the paper.

Not all trade gains are 'clearly' measurable with the facts at our disposal, and not all trade losses either.
