Oleg Markov

Post by robevpau1 »

COLLINGWOOD is set to sign Oleg Markov, just 24 hours after he began training at Carlton.

Markov had initially spent the majority of his summer trialling for a vacant list position with the Pies, but finished up last Friday after Craig McRae's side opted to fill its final spot by recruiting 204cm ruckman Oscar Steene.

The former Richmond and Gold Coast speedster was then handed AFL approval to train with Carlton and began on Thursday, but the Blues were informed later in the evening that he would be accepting an offer to return to Collingwood.

The Magpies will now need to move a player to the inactive list before next Wednesday's February 15 deadline.

Well bugger me. Blues fans up in arms in 3,2,1...

Played in no.31 at Richmond and no.17 at GCS. We have no.34 & no.37 available.

Thinking Kreuger, to ensure he builds up strength in his shoulders. Maybe they've had further medical advice on how best to approach the recovery.

Well, they obviously rate him and so do plenty of Richmond supporters who were surprised when he was let go by the Tigers. I guess the more interesting question is why didn’t the Suns renew his contract.
From my understanding, throughout the entire 2023 season, Collingwood are now required to have at least one player on the inactive list at any given time. That could be anything from a long term injury to a premature retirement but unless someone knows otherwise, I take it that we are starting the season one extra player than our list capacity allows.
The club has done a phenomenal job to realign its list profile in the last 12 months. The Markov selection adds more run and carry, experience ( kinda ), pressure for spots and further depth to the squad.
Only time will tell whether he warrants senior selection or not.

Quite possibly. I’m not sure the Krueger “ nomination “ is as obvious as it would seem. May yet even be MacRae with back related issues. All back issues, particularly in a contact sport, need to be managed very conservatively.
Without being crystal clear on the rules regarding inactive players, my understanding is that the nominated inactive player is required to remain inactive for a minimum of 8 consecutive rounds of footy. Happy to be corrected if others know better.

I think it's 6 weeks but that's neither here nor there. It could be a number of players, we will find out soon enough. I will stick with Krueger due to his injury. Happy to be wrong.

Collingwood defender Charlie Dean will be placed on the Inactive List for the 2023 season as he recovers from a foot injury.

Not exactly a like for like replacement for Dean and we seem well stocked for half backs already (hell even WHE has joined those ranks over the preseason) but he's known to a couple of our coaches already, fits in with our new style of play under McRae and with our other off season additions just adds to our experienced depth for the upcoming year.

Welcome Oleg.

P.S- Being able to troll Carlton with the addition of Markov is probably a good enough reason in itself to be happy with this news.
He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!
