Politicians only wanted to be elected or re-elected, so if the voters demanded better, we would get it. While we continue to approach politics like a sport where you barrack for a team and don't look at issues independently, you have politic parties acting in accordance. Dumb society = stupid politics.
kill for collingwood!

You have to ask yourself where voters get most of their information from. My guess is the media. The more media is controlled by certain right wing political party interests, the harder it is for people to gain non stupid views.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm

Anyone who relies on a single news source is already stupid. You need to read a few different ones to get a balanced view.
Unfortunately too many people these days rely on Social Media for their news (Something the Andrews Government is very very good at BTW) and confirmation bias plays a role in the spread of, often, utter bullshit.

Personally I think we're doing better than the US. Over there it's basically a 2 team race , the disengaged don't vote and the rest get sucked into partisan politics.
Here, both major parties are in decline on their primary vote as more people look for alternatives, so the less people who treat it like barracking for a sporting team and the more who make decisions based on the issues, media will hopefully shift to reflect this.
