They also have their own injury concerns with Jones and Zerk - Thatcher also. ( both talls ) Unfortunately the long range forecast is for good weather on the day, so it would appear both Draper and Phillips will loom large as scoring options for them.
Best way to beat them is to simply control the ball for longer periods and that’s where the Merrett out really hurts them.
Reckon we’re in this more than some might think.
Thanks for analysis.
Yes, Draper and Phillips loom large. That is why I think we need to select Kreuger, not for the ruck but as a tall forward, so that Ash J and Billy F can provide consistent contests in the ruck and hopefully around the ground. We must take optimism from Billy F's performance last week in the ruck.
Our pressure against St Kilda was elite for 99% of the game, so we will need to reproduce this. The loss of Murphy is in my mind the greatest of our losses, as his ferocity at the contest, marking prowess and intercept marks contributed greatly to this pressure. However, given that the loss of Adams is compensated by their loss of Merrett, and McStay did not make a tangible contribution over the game due to his early injury, there is no reason to believe that we cannot replicate the same kind of pressure and superiority in contested ball. I agree, we are not out of this. We have many elite players across all lines. JDG returning will be important

Yes they do, but at least Essendon have shown their hand and we know what's coming, hopefully allowing the 'pies brains trust to come up with a tactic to counter their influence.
I find your lack of faith disturbing

Degoey is a big in.

Amazing how quickly Murphy has gone from a fringe player to key cog in the team...always been a huge fan of his since day 1....and not just because he and I went to the same school...many years apart I might add

We need to take the Adams decision further. This is a joke.
Might as well make the the players wear bibs and make sure they maintain 6-6-6 for the entire game.

Pathetic.

I think Ruscoe can do a good job in replacing Murphy.

Agreed - Ruscoe has to play.
DeGoey comes in for Adams.

Kruger comes in for McStay - no other option - let's hope he can compete in the ruck and up forward.

I am thankful we have Frampton to take on the ruck duels. He is now irreplaceable and our hope to keep the team morale and firing in the near futute. Mihocek has been and is still is an important cog in the forward line. Johnson is becoming a go-to utility to help out in the ruck and generally around the forward half. I feel Fly may not replace McStay as a "one for one".

I too think that Ruscoe is the man to replace Murphy but Markov is likely to get the job. Adams wont be there, shame, he's gutsy and an important part of the machine. However, we have JDG coming back. Carmichael is not bad either.

I would prefer that Kreuger stays in the VFL for a while and gets proper match fitness, considering he did not do a proper pre-season. He can remain as reserve of the current senior team second strings (if you know what I mean). Begg is only one or two weeks away from resuming duties. Steen is doing OK in the seconds and gathering experience (22 HO last week).

Pleease, let's not lose any more talls...

Draper and Phillips will murder Frampton and Johnson. They kicked 5 goals against the dreamons/Grundy and basically won the game for them. Wilson should be dropped, De Goey comes in and will probably have to play forward as we need a target down there, which exacerbates the loss of Adams. God I hope that we beat essendrug but can't see us being able to cover all the injuries/suspensions to essential first 22 personnel

We will win Anzac day its that crows away game that concerns me.

Like we have been on the road heaps.

Brisbane then Adl back to MCG then back to Adl it must be a drain on us.

Still tho think we will win Anzac day.

I think JDG will play in the midfield, and Kreuger will be the extra target in the forward line.
I think we will go with:
Out Adams (susp) In JDG
Out Murphy (inj) In Ruscoe
Out McStay (inj) In Kreuger
Out Wilson (omitted) In McInnes (sub)
The only other possiblity for me is if we believe that we need to bolster the midfield by bringing in McCrae as an extra in and under mid to free up JDG more on the outside. Essendon will win territory due to dominance in the ruck, so we will need to depend on our mids running to counter this. If this change were made, I am just not sure who would have to lose their spot. I don't think it makes real sense to have McCrae as a sub. You only bring him in if it is part of a strategy to deal with Essendon's expected ruck dominance.

Whatever the club sees in Wilson, it’s not showing up on the field, unfortunately. He was invisible. Mc.innes looks the better bet.

Unless someone plays out of their skin - DeGoey Sidebottom or Johnson might play a blinder - I think we’ll get done over here. Hope I am wrong, but we are too short on key top-tier personnel against a side that’s suddenly found its mojo. Probably good that we saw the forward power of their rucks last week, at least, as it lets us plan for that.

If we win this, we’ll be nigh on unbeatable once we get our rucks and Murphy and Howe back.

Huge game this one....

Out: Adams- In: McRae (one inside mid for another- not as good, but a player in fine form- would be nice if he could jag a few goals resting forward)

Out :Murphy-In: Ruscoe (Ruscoe is 193cms and 95kgs- taller and significantly heavier than Murphy)- Ruscoe has a significant grunt-factor as well- not as good as Murphy, but Ruscoe is 21 years old and has an awareness of our defensive set-ups that will be crucial...

Out McStay- In: Kreuger (I do not believe that Kreuger will ruck, but he will provide strong aerial presence to bring the ball to ground and not allow Redman et al to zone-off...)

Out Wilson- In De Goey (de Goey has the talent to rip a game to shreds- he will be well-rested after last week and hopefully primed for a big one...

Not sure who the sub will be, but they will be stiff.

I think our mosquito fleet up forward can bring home the bacon- provided we break even in the centre clearances. Hill, Ginnivan, Mccreery and Elliott represent a significant threat to the Essendon defence. In my view, this is where we can win the game...

Win, lose or draw, we can't sook-it-up if we lose.

Our coach insists that we are a work-in-progress and this is true; think of the incredible experience Bobby Hill, Kreuger, Nick Daicos, McCreery, MacRae, Johnson, Frampton and Ginnivan will get by playing in front of such an enormous crowd???

Win, lose or draw, we can reflect on the following:

Murphy and Adams will be back for Round 7
Cox and Begg and Draper available to play AFL/VFL about Round 9
McStay (subject to confirmation), Howe, Cameron and Lipinski back around Round 11-12

Some significant Outs, but some light at the end of the tunnel- if we can hit the start of Round 8 at 5 wins and 2 losses, we would presumably still be well-placed to make an assault on the Top Four as the troops begin returning...
