Who are you tipping out?Take_a_Screamer wrote:C'mon Fly, give Fin Macrae a go!
Maybe in the second half of the season they start to rest a few and he can have a sustained run (if he doesn’t get a chance through injury). Carmichael and Ed Allan will also be itching to get in but they probably have it right Finn is probably at the top. Probably helps his brother is a gun which might add to his currency.
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...
Plus Lipinski will come in after the bye, so playing these guys later in the season only gets tougher. The real problem for the likes of MacRae and Carmichael is that Ed Allen is only more pre season away from passing them both by as a better option. Jacob Ryan is also a talent but is currently playing as a defender, so at least he’s not competition in the short term.
I don’t mind MacRae as a player but they’re also a dime a dozen, so if MacRae came to the club and said he wanted a trade, then I would take what we could get and move on.

We have always needed a reliable genuine big key forward.

Not sure any club takes that on until he’s back playing decent footy again.
With the addition of McStay and Frampton last off season and the continued emergence of both Murphy and Johnson should Himmelberg be a priority use of our salary cap space?
If those within the club knew Johnson was going to jump ship for a larger payday or the body of Mihocek was a ticking time bomb you could justify the move but outside of that targeting an A grade midfielder around that 26/27 years age group is probably a wiser move with all of Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Mitchell, Adams and Crisp 30+ come next year.
The one caveat is that if we go on and win the flag or fall painfully short once again history says we'll go looking for anyone that is realistically available and can improve us in the short term.
If that happens to be Himmelberg and not a mid then so be it. Better not be another Beams like mistake however.
P.S- With Tasmania now a go it's important we keep one eye on our future and make sure we invest in enough draft capital in the coming years so we aren't left short for quality young talent when draft concessions inevitably begin.

Kreuger hasn’t worked yet due to his body. There’s still time if we have patience and he can get right. He’s low dollars at the moment and brilliant if it comes off. Could be rookied if we need to free up a spot.
Johnson could be tempted by dollars to play home in WA or with a brother at the Crows. Has been exciting for all the right reasons but with McStay returning to form, maybe he knows the spots not his. He could easily walk into a spot at the eagles.
Checkers and Howe at the wrong end of their career and Checkers is having a blinder this year. HH would be attractive as he can play both ends but he’s never really been the number 1 KPF or KPB.
Would think if HH were to choose the pies it would be for the team rather than the money. I think he’s a Queenslander originally so not coming home either. With the emergence of Kingsley as coach, I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed at the giants.
Ollie Henry didn’t work out. Could we give Liam Henry a go instead?

Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

Thankfully we have Graham Wright, and he, like anyone wouldnt even pull a seat at the negotiation table if Himmelberg's manager is floating $900k around. That's franchise player dollars, he ain't that.
Plenty of discussion in SEN this morning on what he'd be worth on the open market, and what it'd take to get him out, they're saying $700-$800k.
He and his manager would be aware he can continue at GWS in relative anonymity, or come to the big show for $650k. At those $$$, GWS would undoubtedly match, so the game would begin.
Would he make us a better side? You'd certainly think so. If we start throwing money around, as ^Swoop points out, is he a vital chess piece? He has the ability to play both ends, so offers flexibility.
Personally, I'd still be looking for an elite small forward and an Adams / Mitchell like extractor, both in the 85-125 game bracket.
But anything over $800k it's seem a bit rich for someone that hasn't been in an All Australian team or squad.

Listening a bit to Sam Maclure (yes I don't like him either), he said we were right into Himmelberg, but no where near the reported $$$
If he were to come to us it would be a team choice rather than a financial one.
I think he would be perfect in our side. Versatile, can leap, mark and is an accurate kick. Would be multidimensional in both our forward half and down back if required.

For the avid reader, just ftr you may recall I posted HH to CFC was practically a done deal in the injuries post several weeks ago way before the Age or Mcloser. it’s happening and will be one of the last couple of pieces that helps propel us to juggernaut status
