But it's come at a cost with match referee Andy Pycroft ruling both sides were two overs short of their targets after time allowances were taken into consideration.

It means Australia sit top of the standings with 10 points instead of 12 after the opening match of the 2023-25 WTC cycle, while England are last with a negative points tally after receiving zero points for the loss at Edgbaston.

Players from both sides were also fined 40 per cent of their match fee by the International Cricket Council for the indiscretion.

.....

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
With cockheads like Andy Pycroft and the ICC sabotaging test cricket, it's a wonder people even bother tuning in, let alone attending.

One of the great all time test matches, and these flogs have to piss on it.

Never mind the outfield was waterlogged and slow as treacle, let's penalise both teams for having the audacity to play for a result.

Well done, mate. What odds did you get on the Oz victory ?
Not very good, I think. Just 2 and a bit?? Unless Skids put more on when Lyon joined Cummins!! That'd be better.

Well played Nicker Kahwaja!
Yeah, funny thing is: it was Warner, Marny & FTB who nicked off 2nd innings, not Mr. NickIt. (But how d'ya nick off when there's no swing and no seam?)

Then again...

A tired Kwahja plays on to Stokes. Angled bat poor shot. 65 off 197. But not his fault. Smith, Labashagne and Head have a lot to answer for.
...
We've seen Khawaja play on before!! (Nice that WPT can spell "FTB" and "Head". Two out of four aint bad!)

I had my doubts about PC as a Test captain. No more . :D
Nice to get a close Test win. Close Tests tend to be Oz losses!

But also happy for Pat. Good to see that nice guys don't have to finish last.

Brettig's player ratings in The Age:

9 for Pat Cummins
3 for FTB Smith.

A bit too high for FTB?? If it were Harris or Pete, maybe Brettig woulda given him 2.

England have called on 18 y.o. Led Spinner, Rehan Ahmed, as cover for Moeen Ali.

Ahmed has played 1 Test for England, in Pakistan, taking 7/135. However, his County form (this year) is less than impressive.

Heavy cloud cover will make the naming of the respective Elevens and the coin toss extremely interesting.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

So Tongue gets his 2nd Test after his debut against Ireland.

Here is Tongue getting Flat-Track Bully Smith out in County Cricket:

LBW swiping to legside across the line of the ball, of course!

The Age reported that Tongue troubled FTB in that game before he got him out.

Murphy's law strikes, it's overcast and raining up in Toc and Channel 9 isn't working. Only fkn channel on FTA that suddenly isn't working.

Thankfully I had internet put on up here a month ago and bought a new TV, so I was able to get a web browser up and sign into 9 Now. Away we go.

FTB Smith's tormentor, Josh Tongue, comes on for his first over.

And he's hit for consec. boundaries by Warner!

Oz 0/48 (18 )
Warner 37 (54)
Khawaja 10 (54)

Tongue must be wishing he's bowling to FTB, not Warner!
