Brody Grundy Dropped by Melbourne

Post by Boot »

Lots of comments by the media about Grundy being dropped by Melbourne.
At this stage the management of Grundy out of the club last year, which I was critical of, seems to have been a big success.
I feel a bit sorry for Grundy being played as a No.2 ruckman to Gawn, but his bank account should still be very helthy with significant $ still coming from Collingwood. :(

I was always critical when the club allowed Jarod Witts to leave so Brody Grundy could be guaranteed no 1 ruck. I always thought that Witts was a better ruckman than Grundy.

I feel for Brody, he’s an elite midfielder in a ruckman’s body. But I’m sure his bank account will cheer him up.

So easy to be wise after the events.

He was superb in his early career.

Until coaches realized he wasn't really a tap ruckman.

Then they started waiting at his feet for the inevitable tap down to his feet.

Still a great athlete and a fine onballer.

NOT a tap ruckman which is why he's playing second string.

Can't mark, is slow, and is not a great kick either....does have a tank though.

You've heard of the great rock n roll swindle; this was the great Grundy swindle

great post, jmac.
In 2018 he was AA, and on his back we came very close to being Premiers.

His manager ( like all player managers ) bears a large slice of the blame for the start of the farce.

Weak negotiation skills on the part of the club is the major cause.

It was not on Grundy’s back that Collingwood came very close to being Premiers.

•Josh Thomas 38 goals (never did that again)
•Stevenson 38 goals (never did that again)
•Hoskin-Elliot 42 goals (never did that again)
•DeGoey 48 goals (never did that again)
I could add Cox but I think the above is enough.

Simon Goodwin said Grundy is now at a club that appreciates him.
Pretty sure the Collingwood coaches he played under never dropped him.
No one said he was a hack, just not worth $1 million a yr.

An inaccurate figure of speech on my part. Yes of course JT, JDG, WHEall deserve to be mentioned as powerful contributors to our brilliant year in 2018. The impact of Grundy was extreme though throughout that year, and there is, I believe, no way we would have been so close without him.

He’ll probably end up at Adelaide in a couple of years replacing O’Brien.

Took Melbourne half a season to work it out.

That single sentence says one hell of a lot about the quality of Melbourne's recruiting team.

Can't take a contested mark - in fact uncontested marks are not a given.

Was tried up forward a number of times at this club and failed miserably.

What were they thinking?
