If we are to continue the Howe experiment, this is the game to do it. I would drop Lipinski and put Howe in the High half forward role. I can barely remember one damaging disposal that Lipinski has delivered since he returned.

Hoskin Elliott, Sidebottom and Lipinski are our 'gut runners' on the wings. With WHE and Sidey back in the mix aI don't see the room for all three.

Cox needs to be dropped too. He is ok at centre bounces but his boundary tap work is horrid. I would prefer to see Frampton as second ruck and to give Moore a chop out.

Not the time for experiments. Need to get back into the winner's circle. The win basically locks in a home final and double chance.

Hawks aren't that bad of a team. Not the time to underestimate them.

Assuming we go our best side.

In: Frampton
Out: Cox

Sub: Hill

Howe forward, Frampton back/second ruck.

Wouldnt mind resting a few.
If they decide to rest, any of
Murphy - Ruscoe (give him a go)
Adams/Pendlebury - Hoskin-Elliott (if both then Carmichael)
Howe - Johnson
Elliott/McCreery - Ginnivan

Johnson has to come in. He's the only bloke we have who can actually play the forward role and he can kick a goal. He's 4th (21) on our goalkickers list behind; Checkers (34), Jamie (28 ) & Bobby (22) and he's played 4 less games than those blokes.
I keep hearing that McStay is the man... I can't see it.

We just need to get back to business and get a W this week. Saturday arvo with 2 extra days break, we should be cherry ripe.

Frampton for Cox.

Hill and Johnson will come in as well. Who they replace, I'm not sure.

pies v Hawks

Post by orie »

Beware the Dorks. We have always struggled against them for some reason...

Need to come back strong next week. St. Kilda kicked 9 in the first quarter against them but the hawks kicked 6 in the 3rd. Wecan't afford any lapses.
Watched Ash Johnson in the VFL. Needs tone in this week . As for Ginnivan..I love him and would like to see hm get another chance. Carmichael was quite good too.

Hawks have lost four of their last five, they’re 16th for a reason and they are the youngest, most inexperienced team in the competition. If we can’t beat them by at least a point, then we don’t deserve to be playing finals.

We’ve pretty much been playing one short for the last month with Cox offering up very little. If we can replace him with someone who can hit the scoreboard with a bit of regularity, then we will look a bit more threatening up forward. I don’t care who it is. Whether it’s Ginnivan, Frampton or Johnson, we have a month to either get that right or alternatively, have Cox find his mojo again.

Must win this one and win it bloody well , no more farting around, hit back hard, real hard, from last weeks disappointment. Id rest Cox , Lipinski and drop WHE, bring in Bobby, jack ginnivan, and ash, Frampton on bench.

I can’t see them dropping/resting/managing Cox this week against hawthorn. McRae would like to give him another opportunity to find form and as a result, confidence before the finals. He is always hard to match up on, and also provides opportunities for our crumbers, who need to lift their game more so than Cox.

Cox has kicked 2 goals and taken 12 marks in his last five games. Not sure he’s been that hard to match up on. You could argue Howe did more in one quarter on the weekend. Johnson was dropped for kicking 6 in his last 2 games and Ginnivan averaged close to 2 goals a game last year.
The coach has a number of tough conversations ahead of him in the coming weeks but he won’t get it much easier than the conversation he should have with Cox this week. If Cox is any good, then he still has time to show it in the VFL before finals. I’m sure he’d prefer that than being dropped on the eve of finals.

My team for the finals. Idea I’d we free up Moore to CHB and play Frampton at FB on the big forward. Only change here might be to start Pendles I. The middle for defensive balance in the ball ups and perhaps then JDG kn interchange.

Maynard Frampton. IQ
Murphy. Moore. Markov
JDaicos. Mitchell. Steele
Howe. Miocek. McCreery
Elliot McStay. Hill

Cameron, JDG, NDaicos

Int: Pendles, Adams, Crisp, Ginni
Noble (sub)
