Pies turn up the heat on players

ALAN Didak always wanted to be a fireman when he was a kid. Yesterday the swift-footed forward had the chance when he and his Collingwood teammates became firefighters for a day.
The Magpies tested their emergency service skills at the Metropolitan Fire Brigade training centre in Abbotsford.
Decked in full fire-proof gear and oxygen masks, the Magpies were given the task of rescuing dummies from smoke-filled rooms.
The players then got a taste, in a heat-room simulator, of the heat firefighters experience on the job, where roof temperatures reach up to 600C.
After crawling around on the floor in the heat, Didak said the job appealed to him.
"I wouldn't mind doing this after footy," he said. "I've always wanted to be a fireman, so a bit of practice today and hopefully in the future I might be able to become one.
"We had a tough past month, so it's always good to get out with the team and do different things for a change."
Defender Jason Cloke also felt at home during the drills.
"My godfather's a fireman and I've spent a few nights staying at the fire station and going out to calls with him and going to different fires in the truck," Cloke said.
The fire training was part of a course half the Magpies list is undertaking with La Trobe University.
