He prolly wants to be able to get up in the morning without pain. To be able to play with his kids. etc.

His body is broken.

Maybe it's time to bring Jonathon Ceglar home... altho he's retired too.

I'm looking for someone that will not be the #1 ruck option, but will be able to play straight away if need be. Someone with some experience and someone that can hold their own.

Maybe bring Witts home?? Rescue him from Dimwit Dimma!

After the horror of the Grundy years, I'd like a backup who doesn't ram hit outs down the throat of the oppo all the time.

WINGARD MEETS WITH REIGNING PREMIERS AFTER BEING DELISTED

Post by LaurieHolden »

The Age reports Chad Wingard underwent a medical at the Pies on Friday and met with Craig McRae and footy boss Graham Wright, both of who worked with Wingard at Hawthorn.

Those nameless faceless ones are saying we've offered 'the Chad' 2 years and Hawks only offering 1 year, his preference is to stay a Hawk but that sounds like bargaining speak to get them to offer 2 years. He should come based on list demographics alone, he's not winning a flag with them and just a matter of time before he gets the Mitchell treatment like our boy, crazy if he doesn't come.

If he's passed the medical, then the character testing, it'll make for interesting player machinations post the main draft.

Will our 1st round rookie pick be enough to secure him?
Will Hawthorn use their first pick? They've committed to rookie both Wingard and Cooper Stephens. I reckon they'll lean towards Stephens given Wingard is recovering from a serious Achilles injury and is set to miss the first part of the 2024 season.

Perhaps we can afford to allow him time to rehabilitate, and if he gets his body right, would certainly keep the pressure within our squad for starting spots / depth. Has his AA best past? Likely. But he's shown he can still play high quality football. Certainly worth a throw at the stumps.

Fly Wright obviously interested otherwise he wouldn’t have done a medical. It’s a big investment in a player unavailable for half the campaign, and without a preseason. His best is definitely behind him at his age with having done one Achilles. Could be boom but could be bust. Hope it’s not another case of brilliant flashes few and far between like Daniel Wells.

If we take on Wingsrd, wonder what we are giving up in terms of an untried rookie. Our next Brodie Mihocek could be waiting in the 2023 rookie draft

I assume he could just be signed up for free as a delisted free agent, just like Hugh Greenwood was by the kangas.

Such a classy half forward but has been injured a lot recently

If we were to pick up Wingard from the Hawks, then effectively we've swapped one talented half forward (Ginnivan) for another. One at the beginning of his career with 8-10 years left and the other a broken down veteran in the twilight of his career.
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this? Cos it makes no f'ing sense to me.

I would prefer Ginnivan and Taylor Adams over Wingard for next year. Especially when you consider his achilles injury.
Side by side.

Can someone who knows the vagaries of the draft process, clarify if Wingard falls into the AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period and are Clubs forced to use their draft order, picks or otherwise.

Tuesday, November 21
AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) (post completion of National Draft)

Wednesday, November 22
AFL Pre-Season Draft (3pm)

Former Adelaide young gun reveals reason for shock exit

Post by LaurieHolden »

Invite this lad down to the 'whatever we're calling it now' Centre over the summer. Given his trials and tribulations, surely becoming one of 44 sons under Fly & co. might be the type of environment to ignite his passion for the game once again.

POSITION : Defender
WEIGHT : 97 kg
HEIGHT : 196 cm (6' 5")

https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/fischer-mcasey/

Former Adelaide Pick 6 selection Fischer McAsey has opened up on the hardship he endured during his time in the AFL and his potential return to football after a year away from the game.

McAsey decided to step away from football in January this year, leaving the Crows ahead of the 2023 season after three years at West Lakes.

Players who are listed as 'retired' aren't able to return to the league until over 12 months from their departure, meaning McAsey could be an option for AFL clubs as early as the 2024 Mid-Season Draft. Exemptions can be made and allow a player's old side to be compensated.

Yes!

Ok, he is 30. Ok, he is going to miss the first half of the season.

But if he is hungry, if he can come in and at worst offer a depth option at a small fwd/mid, whats the harm in taking him on for 1 season (possibly 2). Its low risk-high reward.

He can get the ball, is a good user of the ball, and is good in front of goal. It would be like getting a new recruit half way through the year. Someone that is ready to play, someone that can play. And the #20 jumper is now available too.

In his last 5 games before the injury;
16 disposals, 2.0, 0 tackles (GWS)
18 disposals, 0.2, 4 tackles (North)
17 disposals, 3.1, 2 tackles (Richmond)
26 disposals, 2.0, 5 tackles (St Kilda)
26 disposals, 0.0, 2 tackles (Collingwood)

The Hawks wont be too fussed that another club will take him. Lets go for it.

Daniel McKenzie played with Moore and De Goey in TAC Cup days. Been delisted by the Saints, but has been disappointing. Doesnt fill a need for the list. But I'll be interested to see if someone jumps on him before the Saints re-rookie him.

Cooper Stephens is another thats been promised to be re-rookied by the Hawks. The Cats had him linked to a future leader of the club and then dropped him like a hot potato in the trade to Hawthorn (which landed us Mitchell).

Is he just no good?
