#37 Oleg Markov
Reviewing those links of Oleg Markov and what a character he is lends me to ponder what it is to have these infectious personalities around the Club.
If you have too many training robots, you remove character and we seem to have found a good balance on that front.
Of recent times we've had Daisy, Heater and Swanny who perhaps have been the modern day standouts.
My early days of supporting the Club, Billy Picken and Rene Kink stood out, with commentators like our own Louie the Lip Richards adding nicknames to give them even more colour, like wrestlers.
So here's to Leggy and the characters of our game.

'COLLINGWOOD has locked away ... Oleg Markov to a one-year deal, having renegotiated his contract in recent weeks.
...
He signed a one-year deal with a trigger for a second season in August last year, but Collingwood has recently restructured Markov's existing deal to ensure he remains at the club in 2025.'

Gotta say, hope it was real cheap...

You'd presume so; I'm not convinced the salary cap is quite back on the black yet.K wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 2:46 pm 'COLLINGWOOD has locked away ... Oleg Markov to a one-year deal, having renegotiated his contract in recent weeks.

Anyhoo, like many other fringe [and senior] players on our list, he failed to maximise the 2023/2024 off season to improve his disposal standard.
And here we are.
James, Hotton and Ross were all ratbags when on the piss when out on the town.

Where does Oleg now sit in the grand plan. Was half the player this year compared to last. Does he carry any trade capital?
Swans hahahahahahahahahahaha professional chokers

No, not now. He was thrown a lifeline to actually join the club in the first place and he did very well in making the most of the opportunity.
29yo in May next year, he's now only there for depth, given a 1yr contract after he bought Fly some flowers.

Re: #37 Oleg Markov
Oleg has done well and really made the most of his career when plenty would have given up. To play 23 games in a premiership year after already being let go by 2 other clubs is a great achievement in itself. He went on to play just the 12 games this year, but his pace and team first attitude see him go on.
As RB said, do not underestimate the importance of having good depth, but also do not underestimate the importance of having a guy like this around the club. He is a great clubman and loved by all at the club.
He's played 86 AFL games. Making it to 100 will be a magnificent achievement.

Re: #37 Oleg Markov
An odd development here.
So Oleg signed a 1 year deal a few weeks back, but has now been "delisted". But he is being moved to the Rookie List. Ash Johnson in the same boat.
The club hasn't made any official statement yet, but that seems to be the deal.

Re: #37 Oleg Markov
I give you, the world's shortest honoured contract; didn't even last three months. What was the point?
Why wasn't this all done prior to trade period?

Good list management. You wouldn’t do this before the trade period before you’ve obtained/dealt everyone and understand where the cards have fallen.
Re: #37 Oleg Markov
Spot on and there’s also been a recent rule addition where the first $80,000 of a rookies wage is not included in the cap. Clubs are looking to max out their rookie lists wherever possible because of the above. Collingwoods aim would be to select any players who fall into those rookie parameters, as rookies. This is a more cheaper arrangement than maintaining them as primary list players, where their wage would form 100 % of the T P P.Simply_Brutal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:56 pmhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rookie_list

The media were also a bit “ mischievous “ to say Markov was delisted. He was simply moved on to the rookie list. His contract still applies and he can play seniors anytime his form warrants it.
Ditto Johnson.
