Love to see young guys coming through but who makes way? Hopefully we don’t have a horror run with injuries but that seems like the most likely path to these rookies getting a sustained look at it. Reef pretty unlucky last year and even though Ginnivan was there in the GF, Schultz will be a more permanent staple forward (when Ginni wasn’t). Can’t see a small replacing McStay. Frampton might not be a regular I suppose, but Harrison not a like for like there either.
There is the Adams role I suppose. Wonder if Elliott plays that - creating a space up front? Or perhaps they give Reef that opportunity?

We would all do well to keep an eye on this kid. For all the talk of the big preseasons by McInnes and MacRae, it’s Harrison who finds himself as an emergency in the season opener. He’s been “ in the mix “ for a while now but this year, it’s his body shape that may yet take him to a new level. He’s definitely bulked up and he’s been trialled on the wing in the pre season. He’s got some tricks to go with his pace but historically his form fluctuates between good and underwhelming all to easily. A couple good consecutive performances in the VFL and maybe an injury or two to others and Harvey may find himself with another chance in the seniors sometime soon.

Couple of years ago in the ressies he put his hand up, imo injury stopped him from getting a game.
Flat lined, but the kid is back and firing again. Surprised me no end this pre-season, and filling out well. 20 years old, 21 in November.
I think it was Chris Scott who once said 'the difference between a second rounder and a first, is 2 years in the system'. (something along those lines)

He looks to have transitioned seamlessly at senior level. Last week's fleeting glimpse and post the euphoria of Friday night, within context of H&A matches, he won't get a bigger test than what he's just experienced.
It's always encouraging when a player exhibits natural football nous. There's so many athletes playing the game, but wig3hout footy IQ. Footy IQ sets a player apart.
I'll be watching with interest to see signs his aerobic capacity matches his football skill-set. If so, Hine might just have found another late pick that'll fill the void of one of our veterans in the departure lounge.
For next week at least, he'll fill the void left by McCreery.

This kid is still only 20 years old and he’s already completed four pre seasons with the club. In that time he’s obviously worked very hard to bulk up without losing speed and while there are no guarantees, there’s a lot to like.
He clearly works very hard to cover both ends of the ground as per his game saving mark in Carlton’s goal square deep in the last quarter.
There’s a tracking stat called “ average speed in attack “ and Harrison led ALL players in the Carlton game ( other than Sullivan who only played half the game ) What that stat shows is that he’s always on the move and doesn’t just loiter when the ball isn’t in his immediate vicinity. Basically this kid is always working hard to be involved and lend support.

The quicker we can get him into the wing role opposite Jaicos ( no disrespect to Sidey) the better the team will be!
While Sidey has played that role great in the past he seems not to have any impact on the contest when playing the defensive winger role. He has slowed a fair bit and can’t jump! We have to find a new role for him now.
HH has speed a nice kick and a powerful upper body it’s time!

Yes it was HH who dished the ball off to Sullivan who went on to score his first goal, but even better it was HH who slapped the ball from a tight contest into the space that allowed Nick Daicos to glide into that space, gather the ball and snap truely for a match winning goal. HH also caught my eye by taking a defensive mark on the half back line in the last quarter, so he is covering plenty of ground and showing some ability to read the ball off an opponents kick better than opposing forwards.BazBoy wrote:Was it he that dished off to Sullivan to get his 1st goal ???

While his form looks good on his season 2024 time on ground to date, I look forward to the analysis of his early body of work (25-50 games) in order to validate his field kicking efficiency and set-shot goal kicking.
From what I can glean from reports on his junior career, his kicking efficiency and his size was what kept him from going higher than a speculative 3rd round pick.
In only 3 pre-seasons to date he's shown enough discipline off the track to both add and carry his new playing weight.
His handballs to date have been sound and his athleticism has been a notable factor.
From the VFL games I've watched over the past 2 years, he's certainly good enough to permanently break out of that grade.
All going well he looms as one that might fill a clearance role to incumbent Tom Mitchell. Between now and then, HH starts to accumulate possessions.

Slotted in like a returning veteran in the hottest game of the year. Reads the play and positions intelligently.
Having two new ins look comfortable at the top level is a massive bonus to go along with a great win, especially given we have two like-for-like outs next week.
