Disappointing that Rafa is out.
That might be the last time we see him play in Australia.

A struggle, but de Minaur served out the 2nd set, and it's one set each.

^ Raonic retired after sustaining an injury.
De Minaur through to the 2nd Round.

Real shame to see Raonic pull the pin early.
Sad to see veterans such as Murray, Wawrinka, Nadal (withdrew) and Raonic all struggling. We're now close to an end of an era from the generation born in the late 80s/early 90s.
I guess nothing lasts forever.
Djokovic is the only one in his age group that's sustained his high performance.

Huge effort from Dominic Thiem but he lost in five sets and five hours to Felix Auger-Aliassime .
'Thiem exited the court at about 1.45am to a standing ovation from an audience who seemed well aware they had witnessed a contest that went beyond the realm of ordinary tennis and entered a special plane.'

de Minaur is cruising towards a straight-sets victory against Cobolli.
Shelton leads 2 sets to 1 against Mannarino, Djokovic 2 sets to nil against Etcheverry. They are on course for a grudge match.
Darren Cahill is in Sinner 's camp.

AdM did win in straight sets...
But Shelton is staring down match points in the 5th!!
And Mannarino does it! Beats Shelton in 5. So no Djokovic-Shelton grudge match to keep the press happy.
