Lotta media chatter 'bout the FTB LBW non-review.
“Steve Smith is convinced every LBW ever given against him isn’t out except for the one that isn’t actually out.”

But it's a close call, innit? The pic looks odd, 'cos it looks like the bat is behind the ball. Of course, really, the ball is behind the bat. Have to take the bat away in your mind.
ODI World Cup 2023
Scott Bailey (AAP): “The one time Steve Smith doesn’t review …”
Aatif Nawaz (BBC Test Match Special): “A huge mistake from Steve Smith. The replay showed impact was way outside off. …”
"Way outside"?? Outside, sure, but way outside? If it were way outside maybe the umpire and Head woulda seen...
Some crazy "theories" too...
Bharat Sundaresun (cricbuzz) suggested FTB Smith knew Bumrah's ball was too good for him and decided Bumrah deserved his wicket. Crazy!! There's no way FTB would think that!!

What worries me is that all the media talk of Smith's "huge brainfade" will stop him doing the team thing (not reviewing his LBW) ever again.
Sheesh... If it really were so clearly impact outside, the ump woulda given it not out. And Head woulda told Smith to review. Head told Him something like "don't ask me".

My take:
* Smith may have felt pressure from his teammates over always blowing their reviews on his plumb LBWs.
* When reviews LBWs he's usually deluded that it's missing the stumps. Usually leg stump. He has no clue where his stumps are.
Here it was obviously crashing into the stumps.
He is not usually thinking about impact outside the line. Batters who have footwork are saved by this more. He doesn't have real footwork. He's usually trapped on the crease or behind it. He just shuffles across the crease. So he prolly didn't think about whether it was impact with pad outside the line.
