Rocca is morre value on the forward line than ruck. it'd be nice to have kinnear hold down a key back position, not have to be thrown into the ruck. But I think Fraser will only get bigger and better, and McKee is ok. He was very good first 5 games last yer before he got injured.

I believe many are being hard on the bloke..just like others he is only new to the rucking. I think he played pretty well until he had shoulder problems. I still don't believe a ruck is overly urgent. Sure we are lacking at the moment. But with guys like Josh and Richards coming up i don't believe we should be that worried. Mckee may blitz them next year, each season counts as more experience; however, if he does not do well this next season we may well see him packing up.

To put it in perspective, the difference between a 9th and making the finals, possibly top 4, was our rucking. McKee went a year with barely a centre knockout. He played 2 good games but neither centred around centre bounce ruckwork. He has no future as a ruckman at all. I know he has had illness and injuries in the last 2 years but he just bdoesn't seem good enough to me.
Apparently we are still talking to St.Kilda about Everitt.

I asked McKee on Friday night if he was going to be our star
ruckman next year. He said "I DOUBT it" and sounded really
pi**ed off. It sounded to me like he thought he might not get
the chance next year?

Think of it this way. Richmond had Ben Gale, Brad Ottens, Ray Hall, Pat Steinford and Steven McKee. Out of all of those players, McKee was the one that they didn't want. If you talk to tigers supporters they will tell you that he is not a ruckmans butt, and that his best football was played at CHB.

We are trying to make this bloke into a ruckman good enough to compete against Everitt, Primus, McDonald and Keating, King and the other top ruckman in the league, and he just doesn't have it.
Think back to 2000, when he lined up on Scott Lucas at CHB, and Sheedy had to drag Lucas because McKee gave him a bath. Now we watch him get slaughtered in the ruck week after week, and when we take him out of the centre and bring in Josh or Anthony, we get back into the game. Last years game against the Bulldogs was a prime example. We were getting beaten in the middle by Darcy, McKee gets injured, goes off and Josh & Rocca go into the ruck, and BOOM, we start getting the ball out of the centre and kill 'em.

We will struggle again this year if we get thrashed in the centre and at stop plays like we did last year. I can't see us making finals if we don't get a ruckman that can compete in the middle, because I think that we need to get first use of the ball to give our forwards a chance, and Josh is still a few years away from dominating, just threw pure size, and McKee doesn't have it.
