What David quoted doesn't justify why Hamas should be in control, it just shows what happens when there is no-one in control.

If Israel does succeed in (temporarily) destroying Hamas, something needs to replace it whether that is UN peacekeapers or the Palestinian Authority. It just shouldn't be either Hamas or Israel.

Sorry, I thought it went without saying, but of course I think the war should stop immediately and should never have happened to begin with. There should have been negotiation from day one. That was the context in which elections should have been held. From where we are now, there should be immediate ceasefire, caretaker government, UN peacekeepers and aid, and an election as soon as possible.

Gaza was/is too geographically and economically poor to ever really be sustainable as a stand alone state and Hamas was more interested in using Aid money for weapons rather than basic infrastructure. Maybe (just putting it out there) in the end it's better if Gaza just becomes Israeli territory and the Palestinian people there relocate to somewhere they actually have prospects whether that be the West Bank, Egypt, Jordan or somewhere else. Looking at the map it makes sense, however the Palestinians should have been rehomed peacefully, not slaughtered.
