If you are hoping for the US to bring them to heel, you will be bitterly disappointed. Just today, the US just used its veto power in the UN Security Council to block the Palestine's request for full UN membership.David wrote:So much for the two-state solution:

What more proof is necessary for everyone to understand that the "two -state solution" is, and always has been, a total fraud?
IN any case, if Israel is allowed to proceed with the current genocide - there will be no Palestinian population left in the Middle East.
The two state solution has always been a chimera, to tie the Palestinians to a hope that was never going to be granted anyway. The rise of Hamas is attributable to the fact that those in the Palestinian leadership who pursued a two state solution with the US and Israel were continuously forced to accept more and more draconian concessions, which were intolerable to the Palestinian people. The Palestinian masses justifiably lost faith in the process, and in the leaders who kept promising the possiblity of a two state solution but delivered instead only betrayals. It was only natural that the Palestinian people would shift their allegiance instead to a political tendency -such as Hamas - which denied that Israel would ever agree to an acceptable arrangement, and that the Palestinians would never achieve freedom nor an economic future, unless they fought for it. Hamas does not have a political program which can defend the Palestinian people. But the Palestinian people turned to it out of desperation, because they understood that the negotiations with Israel and the US were always going nowhere but to their continued impoverishment and oppression.

They are psychopathic fascists, confident that they have the full backing of the US to deal with opponents - the Palestinians, as well as Hezbollah, and ultimately Iran - once and for all. The Israeli government knows full well that its plans for war coincide exactly with the interests of US imperialism, and that the US has their back.David wrote:Apparently Israel’s government are considering an escalated response to Iran’s strikes. If so, apart from being corrupt and murderous, they’re also total $$%^%%$ morons.

The region / conflict has echoes of Lawrence of Arabia (Director David Lean or screenwriter Robert Bolt) / Seven Pillars of Wisdom (T. E. Lawrence). This history is far more complex and interesting than what Lean / Bolt and Lawrence or the current mainstream journalists du jour offer.
It reminds me of the scene in the movie of the Arab council in Damascus (Syria). Lawrence describes raucous scenes in Seven Pillars, the town hall “packed with a swaying mob” who argued over Damascus’s governance. The real threat, however, was neither Sharifian Caliphate incompetence nor British indifference, but Abd el-Kadr: the same man who’d betrayed Lawrence at Deraa. Kadr and his brothers launched several attempted coups to undermine Feisal’s authority, resulting in several skirmishes with Feisal’s men. Kadr was eventually killed in November 1918 while imprisoned. The issue, therefore, was not excessive tribalism but an ambitious man and his followers. Mmmm, I seem to have heard this somewhere before.
What the film didn't capture is where the Australian Lighthorse were instrumental in taking Damascus from the Ottomans / Germans. It'd be a stretch though to suggest that's why our politicians see fit to pass judgment on the conflict.
Even then, the depiction of the Arabs as utterly incompetent rubes baffled by machinery, allowing Damascus to catch fire (a fire, the film doesn’t mention, set by retreating Turkish troops) and Turkish wounded to die in hospital is misreported, just as it is now.
The movie recounts Lawrence’s encounter with an enraged British medical officer (“This is outrageous!”), focusing on its irony: after a movie of searching for his identity, Lawrence is mistaken for an Arab.
In reality, the Arabs “quickly collected the nucleus of a staff and plunged ahead as a team”, creating a police force, fire brigades, mechanics and sanitation committees. What a time to highlight this.
As then as is now, none of the characters or scenes turn out the way you expect them to, from either a typical Hollywood or a biographical film nor the Wests version of who are and who aren't the antagonists.

My reading of that is that the US does want a 2 state solution but they don't want it to happen by UN decree but for Israel to agree to it first. That's the diplomatic challenge. If Israel agrees to it, then the work can begin on drawing up hard borders and setting shit up. If it's just a quasi state recognised by the UN then it's just another burr in the arse of Israel and antagonise them further. It won't work unless they agree to it and are prepared to work cooperatively.David wrote:So much for the two-state solution:

I can see the perspective, whether it's the right call or not I'll leave to the experts.

The number of bodies discovered in four mass graves at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza rose to at least 310 Tuesday. Many of the bodies were handcuffed, indicating that they were executed. Many had bandages, indicating that they were patients in the hospital. Many were women and children.
Israel is perpetrating today in 2024 the horrors of the Nazi invasion into Eastern Europe and the Holocaust.
The real terrorists are the Israeli government, the IDF, and their accomplices in the White House.

All of Gaza’s residents are drinking unsafe water, health officials say, blaming Israel’s refusal to allow the use of chlorine or any alternative for treating drinking water.

^ Reuters video filmed in January showed the digging of a mass grave and the burial of bodies by Palestinians who said they had to do so at the Nasser hospital complex because of a lack of safe access to a proper burial site farther away.
We need to be careful jumping to conclusions as these graves seem to have been dug and filled by Palestinians. Why they bound some of the people - well, Hamas is a terrorist group, so it would not be unreasonable to think that they killed some Palestinians that were anti-Hamas.

They could also be hostages who died and they just left the cuffs on.
Point is, as you said, we don't know who buried them or how they died so assuming that Israel (or Hamas) did it is just speculation.

Look, it could also be possible that the Palestinians committed mass suicide and shot themselves - except for the ones who were handcuffedWhat'sinaname wrote:^ Reuters video filmed in January showed the digging of a mass grave and the burial of bodies by Palestinians who said they had to do so at the Nasser hospital complex because of a lack of safe access to a proper burial site farther away.

No, they should send Biden, Blinken and Lloyd Austin, among other US war criminals, to Gaza to experience the genocide that they have been instrumental in orchestrating. What'sinaname wrote:Pro Hamas protests in US universities. They should send these protestors to Gaza or the West Bank.
