Pendles, the 10,000 man. Greatest Pie ever, now ??

Post by Piesnchess »

Scotty Pendlebury, notches up an incredible, amazing 10 000 possessions tomorrow, Anzac day . He becomes the ONLY player in the entire history of the VFL- AFL, over 125 yrs, to reach the 10 000 milestone. Let that sink in, the ONLY player ever, at any team, not just Collingwood. !

IS he the greatest Magpie player ever, on that basis ? Very rarely plays a poor match. In my book, he is, the greatest Magpie ever. Thoughts ? :o :)

I still say Coventry. To kick 1299 in an era where full backs could punch you in the back of the head and wear metal spikes to stomp on your foot. The grounds would have been a boggy mess and only 1 football was used over 4 quarters.

AFL tables has Pendles on 20 disposals less then champion data.

Meaning he will chalk up 10k v the Carlton game most likely.

Many Legends are long gone, their supporters are gone too. I think each era has spawned their own best ever, with their own records and feats in their own circumstances.

Pendles who is up there for me too, is the latest in the line. I think impossible and unfair to anoint our own as THE best. Each generation had an equal in their respective supporters eye's, and I think should remain so for all of us.

^ Yes, it's hard to go past the performances of some of the greats of the past. Harry Collier, eg, played in 9 Grand Finals and won 6 of them. Of course, he played with a host of magnificent players around him, in some of the greatest teams ever put on the field.

It does make you wonder, though - imagine what might have been if Scott and Steele had played the majorioty of their careers under, say, McHale (Harry Collier played his entire career under the Great Man), instead of playing under Nathan for a decade at the peak of their powers. Apart from that black void in the history of the Club, Scott has played 8 completed seasons for two flags and a Norm Smith Medal. He played his last game under Malthouse before he turned 24 and his first game under McRae after he turned 34. He played games number 128 to 334 during the Buckley era.

You'd think he might at least have doubled his premiership record in a better-coached team during that decade.

Been some debate about whether it's 9,995 or 9,996 disposals.

Consensus seems to be its 9,996.

Jezza, I wasn't expressing any view about how many disposals he's actually had - just responding to an incorrect post that asserted that AFL tables had him with 20 less disposals than Champion Data. That assertion was errant nonsense from our resident master, of course.

Gotta win it for Pendles, then chair him off the ground, with 10 0020 possies. ! Hopefully.
