We'll have a vfl forward line vs wet toast, apparently Elliott didn't train yesterday as well. We are in real trouble if he doesn't play as only Bobby Hill would be left from our best 6. McStay, Schultz, McCreery and Mihocek all injured or suspended

I reckon Howe up forward makes sense to take on Mihocek’s role. Maybe Dean comes in down back to help out. Otherwise I think Macrae has to come in, and Bytel seems the most likely replacement for Schultz (though I’d also love to see Richards get his chance if he’s ready).

Not really feeling all this Johnson/Kreuger talk. Let’s see a few weeks of solid VFL form first I’d say.

Markov stays in to help out with defence.
Sullivan and Harrisson in the 22.
OUT: Schulz (susp), Beau (inj), Checkers (inj)
IN: McInnes, Fin, Bytel
SUB: Bytel
Let's debut another one!
Subject to any more injury updates, I'd be happy with this.
Although I'd move Noble from CHB this week...

So, we have no JDG, Mitchell, McCreery, Checkers & Schulz. That leaves some holes doesn’t it.
Without knowing the VFL form as well as others I guess we will see at least 3 come in.

Is Allen a chance?
Bytel has been getting some good publicity
Has McRae done enough to come in?
McInnes or Johnson play forward?
What would our line up look like?
Geez this is going to be interesting
Could Johnson play back and move Howe forward?
Could we bring in Johnson to play second ruck and plant Cox at FF?

All good questions qldmagpie67.

I don’t know about Allan. Small ground. Has not been lighting it up in VFL IMO but then I thought Markov had been horrible too so I’m not seeing what the coaches are. Would be great for him and us if he does. Small ground, tight pockets, short overlap runs, switch the play wide. Everyone needs to be a marking target on the wings at a time. Tough choice for me.
Macrae seems a good choice given small exposure so far. But which role?
Bytel looks in line for a debut to me.
We could play both McInnes and Johnson and be too tall and immobile with lack of defensive pressure. I think it’s one of them, not both unless Johnson plays back.
Either of Dean or Johnson could come in and play back to relieve someone forward. McInnes would be the lead up fast forward. There are a few combos to cover and wil be fascinating to see how this plays out
Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

It can’t be highlighted enough as to how bigger loss both Yeo and Waterman will be for the Eagles. Waterman was averaging 3 goals this season and Yeo was back to his best. With Noah Long also out and Brockman now not considered as an option to come in, their depth is very shallow. We all hate injuries at our club but if you’re looking for silver linings, this is the week to have a few out.

What about this line up i think we will make minimum changes and its a case of re shuffling our line from the blues game:
fb: noble frampton howe
cb: maynard moore quaynor
c: josh daicos pendles side
cf: hill cox harrison
ff: elliott WHE Lipinski
r: cameron crisp nick daicos
int: sullivan marcov carmicheal ?
sub: mcinness

i have only 1 spot leaft i say we would prefer to be an experainced player tho.
its time we selected carmicheal and reef as sub.
other then that things are mostly unchanges from the blues game just re shuffle.
Cox and WHE to be our tall forwards.
The back line looks settled and its just up forward slight changes.
Side to play back as wing.
Main training session is tomorrw morning at AIA starts at 9am and another run on Friday.
Do we think the roof at Marvel open or closed.
I think open if weather is fine in which its predicted.
Pies to go on and win this mothers days match by 25 points.

What an interesting week this'll be. WCE don't seem to be the easy-beats they were last year. But they are still a bottom 6 side.

The Marvel factor comes into it. As does the unavailability of several key players (Beau, Checkers, JDG, Titch, Shultz).

From the possible ins; (To cover Checkers)
Ash. We all know his struggles earlier in the year. Has been ok in the VFL, including 20 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals against Essendon 2 weeks back.
Reef. 16 touches, 5 marks and 2 goals last week. Has been in better form than Ash, other than the Essendon game.
Kreuger. Wont happen. He's played 1 VFL game since returning from injury.
From the possible ins; (To cover Schultz)
Joe Richards. Looking like a fan fave in the VFL. Kicked 6 a few weeks back.
Bytel. Seems likely. Been in the VFL-Pies bests recently including "Coachs MVP" last week. (27 disposals, 5 tackles, 7 clearances).
From the possible ins; (To cover Beau/JDG/Titch)
Fin. Was BOG against Essendon. 31 disposals, 6 marks, 6 clearances. Had 25 touches, 9 clearances and 5 tackles last week. Surely this is his biggest chance. If he isnt named, there must be something wrong.
Carmichael. Many have forgotten about him. A big unit and can win a hard ball and kick a goal too. Unsure of his VFL form recently, but he's been out there.
Other possibilities; (although unlikely)
DeMattia. Too soon, not enough VFL exposure.
Dean. Possible if we swing Frampton forward.
Begg. Cant see it happening while Cox and Cameron are doing their thing.
Ryan (Is he injured?)
Allan (Another who is injured?)

He was ordinary in the first half but was getting to more contests and got some clearing kicks after half time. So that was an improvement of sorts.

I would expect if Mihocek is out, then Reefe is the one to come in. It's kind of pointless playing him as the sub though. Also Cox should continue in his normal role. A forward line with Cox as the primary big target is pretty easy to shut down.

Loss of these forwards (Waterman/Mihocek) cancel each other out...

Jake Waterman won't make the trip to Marvel Stadium on Sunday due to a concussion, while his Collingwood counterpart, Brody Mihocek, will come out of the Magpies' lineup due to a hamstring injury. Waterman and Mihocek are tied fourth in the AFL for offensive one-on-one contest wins in 2024, with both players managing a winning outcome in eight of their 15 contests for a rating of 53.3%. Both players contest close to two offensive one-on-one contests per game, which is less than respective teammates Jack Darling and Mason Cox but both manage a better return rate per contest.
