Bill Serong, a member of the 1958 Premiership side has sadly passed away.
Played 98 games and kicked 52 goals for the club from 1956-61.

Vale Bill . Not too many left from the immortal 1958 flag team now, still ranks as greatest upset in Grand Final history, bar none.

Bill played 98 of his 114 games for the Pies.

Notably, he was also equal-third in the Brownlow in 1959 playing for us and won North Melbourne's best and fairest in 1962, after he was cut by Collingwood. He was studying law and went to Echuca to do his articles of clerkship the following year. Sadly, he was only 25 when he last played for Collingwood and, really, it doesn't seem like the Club showed as much compassion as it might have done after his mother and father died in 1960 and 1961.

Bill’s son is a mate of mine and CarringbushCigar. Vale Bill, a Collingwood immortal, but his son barracks for North! One of his clan is playing for Freo tonight. Hope he goes well but the Pies win.

Any relation to the footy umpire Serong?
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️
