Aw gee I'm excited by this fella, just the kind of makings of a potential cult figure ...not looking to put the mocka on him, but gee, I'm keen to see him play.

Got a really good feeling about this one....

MSD) Iliro Smit - Talent League Round 7

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLzwXpptYPo

I much prefer to see 3:51 of highlights from a single game, rather than cherry picked over a season.

Missed an easy mark in front of goals (early), but later we see him shading his eyes from the sun.. Some good grabs followed,

He has size and bulk advantage, he could just smash the hitouts, but good Rucking skills on show here.

Seems a good reader of the play, and he did say he likes to link up.

The clutch goal in the end speaks more about match awareness than anything else to me.

I love the draft lol, one of my favourite times of the year.. Especially when I sense we caught a goodie. !!

(btw, somehow reminds me a bit like Ben brown, but more athletic perhaps)

Realistically there are now three ( assuming that the long tall Texan might pull the pin after another season ie he will contribute in 2025 , and then pursue another career ) …” putative “ ruckmen to eventually vie as support crew for Camo
Steene ….who has had a shocking run with injuries age 20 height 201 but he did seem to have built up . High leaper

Eyre 21 199 and ( to my eye ) for a bloke that height , ultra athletic . I’ve read that he is a booming left foot kick

Now Smit
According to Charlie one eye
200 cm
Quick
Strong bodied and big mark

Now none of us is devoid of a sharp recall of Qtr 4 in the ‘23 GF ….imho 6 central operators won this for us
Primarily Cox got first positive touch repeatedly
Mitch was on the bottom of every pack winning telling possessions
Nick was fabulous
JDG , the Hyphen and Sidey ditto when it mattered

But in these three , tall, athletic youngsters we MIGHT offer a serious point of difference in the Competition
The Good , The Bad and the Ultra Ugly ….as long as they hold their marks, kick straight and never stop trying-the Magpie Selectors need to give them consideration .

Is there any reason he wouldn't line up in the VFL tomorrow?

Sort of, with a bit of hope lol.
I am allowing for continued improvement from the little we see following his shoulder surgery.

Cameron, Moore McStay, Frampton still have say 4-5 years?. Steene, Eyre, Smit.

And we still have 4-5 years of selections before the older guys get close to retirement. The tide is changing.

The VFL side isn't out yet, but does he come straight into our VFL program? Was he at training this week?

Anyone interested can view the game via the VFL website.
