I hope this is a joke. The bloke turned around a terrible team and missed the Grand Final by a whisker in his first season, then won the flag in his second. The third is a transition year in which, disappointingly, the younger players have generally fired blanks. Before he arrived, we put up with a decade of depressing drivel. I have complete confidence in his ability to get what can be got out of his players - but too many of the moving parts have been missing this year. For a while, the top-end talent papered over the cracks created by extended injuries but you get to a point where there are so many potatoes in the team - or underdone players who are actually stars but can't for the time being perform that way - that it doesn't matter how good the coach is. Happily, he is a great coach. I have no doubt that they will ratchet things up again as soon as they have some better magnets to put on the board.

Right now, the coaching is a mess. For 3 consecutive weeks, we've been beaten the same way and it has nothing to do with personnel. As soon as Hawthorn had 104 disposal in Q1, I said this game is over and headed for a 10 goal loss.

Either the coaching is incompetent or the players aren't listening / following instructions. Either way, that's not good.

It’s the lack of any young player development or creativity which I am concerned with and would like him to correct.

If McInnes doesn’t play full games for the rest of the season questions have to be asked, same for Macrae.

The frustration is as mentioned we are being beaten by what we know which is a huge worry. Hawks had +115 more uncontested possessions and most of those were handball receives (+80 or so). Sometimes it’s not a quick fix but it seems to be getting out of hand hence we got the blowout today.

Geelong bounced back in 2024 somewhat but they injected a bit of youth into the team (Dempsey, Bowes, Humphries, Bruhn). It’s not as easy as that for us because no one is blossoming in the VFL and as for pick 6 well if you are really quiet you can hear them laughing across in the west.

Even tonight we allowed way too much uncontested ball -75 and it started to show late which was expected given the 6 vs 8 day break. Luckily we did enough in the middle part of the game to set up a decent lead.

[25]. Preliminary Final 2022 (Sydney vs Collingwood) = -1

Sydney's next game was an abysmal failure.
