Re: Get Petracca
I think we need to focus on other deals first. Get what we need done. If we end up missing out on a target or still have next years first rounder, offer it to the Dees and see what they say. Of course, we'd need to meet with him and his doctors. The club would need to be satisfied that he will play in 2025. (Is there any chance he misses most of the season or anything like that?)

Re: Get Petracca
Dees played with Clarry who was a shadow of his former self this year. Might be both he and Trac next year playing like that. They are stuffed.
Get back on top.

Re: Get Petracca
The way i can see Trac fitting under our cap is with the Dees paying a big chunk 2026 and with a host of players retiring - Elliot, Checkers, Sidey, Howe, Cox, Mitchell maybe Pendles etc. If he wanted to play with these guys we would have come over when he did his last contract. If he wants to come to the Pies for branding it won't matter that the vets have cleared the deck because he will be filling the space vacated and growing off the branding. If this is a business transaction he should then be prepared to take a salary cut at the Pies because the Trac brand is going to grow and he will make money off all the endorsements etc. You know it if he gets to the Pies and regains fitness, the crowds are going to come because he will do some special things on the field.
I still don't see this move happening in this years trade period, all we have to offer is Ash Johnson, Reef McInnes, Fin Macrae, Nathan Kreuger and a future first round draft pick. Is that going to do it or is that overs? Come next year we will hopefully execute a gameplan successfully for F/S Thomas McGuane and NGA Zac McCarthy first and have 2 future first rounds to deal a trade with given the proposed trading rule changes.

^ Next years first and that is it. If they want a Kruger or an Ash, then fine.
Are they actually going to get a better offer? A first round pick for someone that may or may not get back to his best. Someone who is 29. The Dees should ask around, because I think they would be better off letting him go. Clarry and others too.

I’ve heard a similar thing WPWWhyPhilWhy? wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 12:10 pm I’m told by a reliable source that even if we could we wouldn’t because of the $1.7M salary.
We’ve earmarked some money for Peatling or Davies or Hobbs and have committed some cash on the front end of a couple of last years contract extensions as well
But in saying that we could open up around $1m at the end of 2025 going forward with retirements
We would however need Melbourne to pay a massive amount of his deal
It’s rumoured he is due $5.8m over 5 years with staggered payments (some years more than others) we would need them to eat around $500k annually allowing for our commitments going forward and a big chunk of that would need to be paid to him in 2025 (likely $1.5m) the remaining $1m paid over 4 years
Re: Get Petracca
Petracca to Pies won’t happen for another year.
We don’t have the draft capital to make anything happen this year.

Re: Get Petracca
Surely any club wouldn’t touch him for twelve months just to see if he gets back to 100% following this injury? What if he doesn’t? That would cripple any club for a long time given the cap issue

^Most sensible thing said in this thread so far.
Although if he wasn't on such a large wedge, I'm sure Clubs might risk it even if it took him some time to get back to his best.

Why in God's name would Melbourne pay for any of his contract?? They dont want him to go...qldmagpie67 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 6:15 pm It’s rumoured he is due $5.8m over 5 years with staggered payments (some years more than others) we would need them to eat around $500k annually allowing for our commitments going forward and a big chunk of that would need to be paid to him in 2025 (likely $1.5m) the remaining $1m paid over 4 years
Its nothing like Grundy or Mitchell or Treloar where the club made the decision to turf their player. I cant see a universe where the Demons would commit to paying any of his contract if he left.
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

So are we putting this to bed? Trac is not going to be a Pie. Not in 2025 anyway.

Re: Get Petracca
Yeah, media reckon he'll do a Dunkley and 12 months on, look for a trade again. But sheesh, Dunkley's Doggies exit wasn't this messy!
