Stringer and Laverde are a good example of when you want too much.
I don’t have a problem with players being mercenaries as long as the current club either says okay or nokay to their demands. If it’s a no, let the player go to where he can get the best money (eg. Grundy, Carman, Coll to Swans, Peter Moore to Melbourne etc etc. as many players have done. The downside to this is that some players (like Peter Moore) regretted leaving Collingwood years later.
As they say AFL players have a limited shelf life and they have to maximise their income, unlike most of us who used to have long working careers in other fields of employment.
Collingwood could do worse than picking Stringer for a two year deal. I might be totally wrong but geez, JDG and he could be a force in our forward line. Do it ‘pies!

From the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, he was also a member of the Brisbane Lions Academy and played in their 2019 NEAFL Grand Final win, where he kicked two goals. Lions passed on him when Richmond placed a bid on him with the 43rd pick in the 2019 Draft. He was delisted at the end of the 2021, but re-drafted as a rookie by Richmond before 2022.
25 games in the last three years, no real stand out games apart from kicking 5 against the Lions in 2022.
Dont think there's much to see here, but they just mentioned it. Apparently Howe was his favourite player.
"Adelaide defender Mark Keane is reportedly set to turn his back on a Collingwood homecoming and stay at West Lakes.
And while reports have indicated Keane was open to a return to the Pies, Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark revealed he’s set to remain a Crow after the club increased its offer to the intercepting backman."
Hmmmmm.... now if we can get both Stringer and Houston, we have aced the trades, one is good forward, other a tough, dour backman, just what our Maggies need next season. Bring it on. !

Is now expected to stay at the crows after they have come with a better deal. Longer term, more money.
“I think he will stay at Adelaide, this is disappointing news for Collingwood fans,” Jay Clark said on Fox Footy's Midweek Tackle...“But in conversations over the last 24 hours, Adelaide has come in late with a better deal — a few more pennies in the bag and years on his deal" https://www.zerohanger.com/crows-to-spo ... ws-154793/

Hopefully it's just media being media but pretty disappointing as I think we'd basically ignored Battle because we were expecting Keane to come home. If this is the case, and he has decided to bait and switch, then I have nothing but contempt for the player. He's absorbed a lot of our time and effort, both before he left and now. Though another thought occurs to me; what if the current goings-on at admin level are effecting possible players opinions, the same way that Houston was turned off of a trade to Melbourne?
So, who do we go after now? Or is it another year of the ups and downs of Framps? Or perhaps we settle Special K for a pre-season of defencing and see what he can give? Or err...redraft Ruscoe?
^Dont worry its not called the silly season for no reason
Managers and the media concoct all sorts of stories
Keane may have been open with Collingwood about his decision
He may have said he wasnt sure about leaving Port his manager leaked the rest to get a better deal
Have we lost the edge of being a destination club or was this just another bullshit angle from the hack media? Can a hated club like Collingwood ever become a destination club? Years ago in Bendigo remember talking to people connected with Greg Williams about him considering Collingwood as an option when looking to play AFL football but they said that he hated Collingwood so that was never going to happen.

But I suspect we'll miss out on everyone important, because Collingwood sadly doesn't do well in the trade period. Clubs don't want to deal with us.
That's not true.
Bobby Hill, Frampton, Mitchell were all trades in the one year. If it suits the club, they'll do business.
I wouldn't be giving Keane any smoke over this – he's entitled to explore his options and talk to us; and if the Crows upped their offer as a result then he's also entitled to reconsider his decision to leave. That's all part of the process, and I have no time for arguments that all the power should rest with clubs as opposed to players when it comes to trade negotiations.

Us paying to get Keane seemed a bit wrong to be honest. Bloke walked out on us.
Stringer, I'm not sure there is a player I've given more shit too. My hands may shatter into glass if I started to clap his efforts.
