Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player movements

Another option is Elliot Himmelberg at the Crows. Out of contract, unrestricted free agent.

I think supporters need to come to terms with the approach the club is taking with the recruitment of mature players.

Signing up young players and racking up draft picks is romantic for supporters because there’s the potential to bring in these generational talents, but the reality is it almost always doesn’t pan out that way.

If it were as simple as having a young team, Collingwood should have won every premiership through the 2010’s after being the youngest premiership team of the modern era (at that time). Alternatively; North would be completely dominant, having had a million first rounders year, after year, after year.

Sydney, Geelong and Collingwood have remained competitive for 20 by plugging holes with reliable mature players (and some lucky hits on Academy or F/S), while teams that go nuclear on the rebuild languish for years upon years.

Mature age players are known quantities. Also worth noting that as years go by the sports science and training methods mean players are healthier and longevity increases, so a 30 year old isn’t nearly as worn down as before.

Pick 12 for Noble would be better than watching Jack Ginnivan getting zero possessions as the Power smack the Hawks by 87 points. But ain’t gunna happen.

Any thoughts on Jake Riccardi from GWS? Has fallen behind Hogan Cadman and the other early pick in the key forward stakes following a finger injury, discussed on Sportsday today. Also Callum Brown from GWS possibly looking to move, who I remember destroyed Collingwood in the prelim.

^Riccardi and Brown. Two good suggestions. Both young, both fill a need on the list, particularly Riccardi.
Brown carved us up in the Opening Round this year; kicked 5. Born in Luton and raised in Ireland. He isnt really a key forward tho.
Riccardi was linked to us in his draft year, but got to GWS. I would much rather get a guy like this, then a 31 year old Taberner. Would be above Kreuger and Johnson, but can he fit in with McStay and Mihocek?

I can't see the benefit in recruiting C-Grade players like Riccardi to try and fill key position forward roles. He has never been able to demonstrate an ability to perform consistently at AFL level and would at best be an option for our VFL team.
Callum Brown is an interesting player. He looked a million dollars when he ripped Collingwood apart in the openning round of this year by kicking 5 goals from the forward flank. He is a big bodied forward with elite pace. I haven't kept up to date on why he is no longer in the GWS best team at the moment, perhaps he is injured?
Based on what I saw during that first game of this season he would be worth a look at if he has fallen out of favor with the GWS?
Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation!

@Boot Contracted until the end of 2026, Jake Riccardi has not been able to play a full season since drafted at #51 in the 2019 AFL National Draft after being twice overlooked in the AFL draft. Someone might know why this was the case, was it character or capability?
He was unable to force his way into Leon Cameron’s attacking setup which revolved around Toby Greene, Jeremy Finlayson and Harry Himmelberg.
He dislocated his finger in R19 which effectively put a line through this season.
There's appears to be something there though, but I'd love to know if outside of ability there's a knock on is character and professionalism.

Hey @Pies2016 do you or anyone else have any eye on Will Phillips development? https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/will-phillips/
The #3 pick in the 2020 National Draft has not been handed games in this North Melbourne side, despite the team floating around the bottom of the ladder for successive seasons. He is an NFA in 2025 and seemingly struggling to force is way into their midfield.
Other than Haw. Grainger-Barras and Ess. Zach Reid, he's played the least games from the 2020 National Draft top 10 crop.
https://www.draftguru.com.au/years/2020

North has a plethora of mid-field types so surely they'll struggle to give them the starting opportunities they'd no doubt be seeking let alone fit all of them into their cap.
  • National Draft pick 12 Jy Simpkin - 2029
National Draft pick 4 Luke Davies -Uniacke - 2025
National Draft pick 3 Will Phillips - 2025
National Draft pick 13 Tom Powell - 2026
National Draft pick 1 Jason Horne-Francis (traded)
National Draft pick 2 Colby McKercher - 2026
National Draft pick 4 Zane Duursma - 2026
National Draft pick 3 Harry Sheezel - 2030
National Draft pick 4 George Wardlaw - 2026
That'd pose an interesting give to get scenario for our list managers.

"The Saints are believed to have pulled away from the Dan Houston race, leaving Carlton, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs in the hunt. "North Melbourne, too, has held interest in Houston and put forward its 2025 first-round pick for him, but the Roos weren't part of the clubs he spoke with recently."

Why no possessions for Ginnivan?
They gave away a contracted player who was at the beginning of his development.
Who by the way kicked 40+ in a season like old man stringer. Fly’s & Wrightys biggest mistakes

Don't reckon it was a mistake. Ginniflog is just that and disrespected everyone at the club. Good riddance.
Schultz kicked one less goal in 2 less games and tackles like a madman.
Ginniglog can't even spell tackle.
Everyone said Schultz had a crap year, but with those stats, imagine when he has a good year.

Nah, only a matter of time until Ginnivan would have been caught in a pub toilet again if he’d stayed with us — but all the flogs with their phones are only interested in 15 minutes of fame with Collingwood players, so Jack should sail through the rest of his career without a worry he’ll get filmed again. I’m happy he’s gone, no player is replaceable (except Pendles).

Himmelberg would be a good fit for us, always liked the way he played against us.

As long as we don’t offer a ten year $12million dollar deal to anyone.
