OK, bokka, I'll see if I can clarify this for you. It looks to me like you are under the impression we can only have 35 players on the list next year but that is not so; we can still have 40.
Our list has to be cut from 40 (current number of players on our senior list) to 35 (maximum, but it can be a lower number) before the National Draft (AFL rule).
We can then fill any of the minimum five vacancies through (a) the National Draft, (b) the Pre-Season draft or (c) elevating rookies.
How it works is that you can only have a pick in the Pre-Season draft or elevate a rookie if you leave a vacancy on your senior list after the National Draft.
MM has implied we will be elevating Maxwell and Rowe from the rookie list to the senior list, so we need to reserve two of the minimum five picks to do this.
Therefore, we will have three National or Pre-Season Draft picks left (one, the third round pick, will be used to select Travis Cloke under the father/son rule).
OK?
[after posting this, I noticed the post above - I stand corrected on Rowe, who was picked up in last year's National Draft, however, Leonard, who was a rookie, was elevated to the senior list at the beginning of the year, as we had a vacancy.
We still have to delist five players and elevating Maxwell means we will have four picks for the Drafts]

Gees, presti, you whip in those counters quick smart!
Our total list comprises 44 players - 40 seniors, 4 rookies. The current rookies are Maxwell, Benson, Crow and Fanning. Leonard, who was a rookie at the beginning of the year, was elevated to the senior list before the season started, as we had a vacancy (we can have a maximum 40 players on the senior list).
Agreed?

Permanently.
Maxwell and Crow were the temporary elevations during the year.
Actually, that's a timely reminder. I've got a funny feeling now that we need to make a decision on Crow this year. He played in Willy's Reserves Premiership in 2002, so that means he's been on our rookie list three years, which is the maximum we can leave him there. He showed some good signs in his debut, so trust MM decides to retain him.
Swap Crow for Rowe in all my above posts!

He is out of favour with Laidley. Don't discount a move, as Shane Harvey will most likely be dumped.Nath wrote:Harvey wouldn't leave North anyways, but they know we can't trade away pick 7 at the moment because we've already sacrificed a pick on Travis Cloke, we need to utilise that pick.
Anyway, he is a quoick and skilled midfielder. Get Him!
On Zane Leonard, isn't he off the senior list? I was only aware of Crow and Maxwell's promotions.

We have to delist four players. They should be Kinnear, Lokan, Williams and Nixon. I'd like to persever with all of our rookies, as they have all shown something. Leonard has pace - which is what we need, Benson is a skilled midfielder, Fanning has a good leap and good hands, Maxwell - we all know what he can do and Crow has obvious talent and has done well at Williamstown this season.

Please, let's settle this Zane Leonard debate once and for all, or we'll be going round and round in circles for weeks.
We have forty players in the senior list and four rookies, the maximum we are allowed to have on the combined list. If you don't believe this, open the club website and count the number of players.
ps The Veteran's List relates to salary cap only.

Zane Leonard
A champion under-age athlete in the 100 metres, long jump, triple jump and hurdles, the 178cm winger now puts that pace to use on the football field. Originally from Frankston YCW, he graduated through the TAC Cup program via the Dandenong Stingrays. After a promising pre-season that showcased his pace and agility, Zane was promoted to the Magpies senior list. Unfortunately, he suffered a major hamstring injury almost immediately.
