magpie meg if you'd bothered to read a few other comments in this thread you might have realised there are others who would fit your narrow little view of forcing opinions on others. But then again, they hold the same opinion as you so thats probably ok. The question was asked of God's position in regards to the tsunamis and I've shed some light on the matter.magpie meg wrote:Birdy i think that you are forgetting the most important thing that every individual is free to make up their own mind to whether there is a god or whatever they do or dont belive in. This Tsunami is a tragic event but it is a natural disaster!!!!!
Earthquake, tidal waves Southeast Asia.

What will you try to tell us next, that the Dinosaurs caused the big bang that killed them too????
Quakes have been around since the dawn of this planet. Man has NO influence on them what-so-ever.
If we did then we would stop them.
The asian tsunami was one of those things that happens. Like the Newcastle Earthquake or Krakatoa, or Cyclone Tracey.
If anything Earthquakes control man, The earth is actually spinning faster today then it did on Christmas day prior to the quake. This is because the earth is now slightly (like 1 mm) smaller then it was. This intern makes the earth spin like 0.001% or something faster then it did last week because of this minute difference.
Those stats were off the top of my head and just as examples, but if you desire, check out the Sydney paper last week just after the wave happened for the correct stats.
And I agree with assassin. Where at the RICHEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD, Being the Islamic states of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and the UAE??? I think its funny how Australia and the states are the usual suspects when it comes to supporting ppl involved in these disasters, but these oil barron countries never come to the party.
If Russia and Romania can help out (and we all know how NOT well off these places are) then lets see the Middle East places putting their hands in their pockets too.
Its funny... Christian countries are coming to help thick and fast, but Islamic countries dont want a bar of it.
Well, if you dont want to help us out, then there is NO WAY IN HELL I am helping them out.

Alf, present me proof that man has caused natural occurances such as earthquakes. I'm betting that there were more volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, is it the fault of man volcanic eruptions have declined...or what? You claim natural disasters are on the increase, yet you are incorrect.
I won't just claim something is so, because man has and does cause damage.
The problem with people these days is that they are so quick to believe things. Yes, man has caused damage to the Earth, but let's not make assumptions based upon belief, or guesses.
Alf, I'm not for capitalism at the expense of everything else, and never would be. Only someone who is blindly anti capitalist would lay the blame squarely at the feet of man and capitalism.

It is hard to think of anything to say in this situation.....
latest statistics I heard were over 125,000 dead and that was yesterday morning.
Also over 1000 Australians are missing I think....
Of course there will be the whole religious debate, you know, if God exists then why would he have allowed it to happen? Just my opinion but why does God let anybody die then? Whatever the case natural disasters happen and perhaps he generally just lets nature run its course. I know Birdy will have something to say about that
It certainly does make you realise how easily you can die though and how vulnerable we are.
It seems a bit strange though that the 9/11 attacks got way more coverage and yet only a fraction of the people died then.

Do some research (personal abuse deleted): Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE have all made donations/contributions to the crisis. To suggest they haven't because of their religion is plain (personal abuse deleted).

Joel, Alf made the poimt that there seems to be more natural disasters these days, perhaps because of the mass communication we have nowadays, or that's the way I read it. It wasn't presented as fact, just opinion.
Whilst I don't agree that earhquakes are caused by the actions of man, there'd be plenty of natural 'disasters' man has a hand in too. Fires, floods, land slides, plague etc. The destruction caused by earthquakes has something to do with man in the sense that an equake in a city will cause more 'damage' than on of identical magnitude in the middle of nowwhere.
You claim

they must teach pretty good critical thinking these days...Plato woulda kicked the crap outta me for that.Joel wrote: I'm betting that there were more volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, is it the fault of man volcanic eruptions have declined...or what? Another great load of complete twaddle. Perhaps the islamic countries are making still making up the aid shortfall from the Bam earthquake, you remember, the one the West promised $100 million plus aid, but one year on has delivered less than 17% of that. Then again, it never really qualified as a disaster as no aussies were involved, and the TV pictures were crap too.Tarrant In the Pocket wrote: Its funny... Alf, that may be the case (to a degree), but let's not just come out a say that is the only reason behind it.
Mother nature has always been the most powerful force on Earth.
LD, I noticed that second post from Alf, but I was initially referring to the first post. I should have pointed that out. Yes, mass communication does make it seem as if there are more disasters etc. One Hundred years ago, it would have taken us days to know that this actually happened.
Btw, if I take that "betting[/b]" bit out, say that there were, it might hold a little more credence. The point is, we can all discuss our opinions and forget about discussing the fact .

What is the whole idea of Vic Park Tavern? Its to voice OPINIONS.
Ive made my position quite clear on this topic, as have other people. Stop putting people DOWN for their opinion and be happy you can voice yours.
Ive made my opinion quite clear on this. If you want to argue with me then send me a PM, with all the Personal Abuse you care to inflict on me. It doesnt harm me one little bit!!!

Some interesting statistics however we aren't necesarily concerned with what happened thousands of years ago, perhaps not even a century ago. The passages below state that when we see the signs, that will be the beginning of sorrows, which is translated to mean birth pangs as in labor contractions. It could be the sign, it could not, we'll have to see what happens in the near future.
Mat 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
