G'day fellow Collingwood faithfull.
I have been watching quite a few afl matches lately and suprised with the number of 50 metre penilties being given for soft calls!!!! have the afl told them to increase them, because there used to be only one 50 metere peniltie every 3 weeks, if that! Its really starting to piss me off, it should be reduced to at least 15 metere penilty if there gonna give so ^$%$%% many!!! A good example of a costly 50 metre penilty was last week aginist geelong. late in the 4th Quarter, a geelong player took a mark 5 meters out of goal in our box. And he clearly played on and Gavin Brown tackled him well and should of been awardered a free kick for holding the ball. Instead, the biast umpire said that he didn't play on a gave him a 50 metre penilty! Its bullshit!
Has anyone else seen this increase of 50 metre Penilty's lately?

It used to be a 15 metre penalty. I think it would have been the late 1980s when they changed it. It was still 15 metres when Jimmy Steynes gave away a penalty against Hawthorn in the 1987 Preliminary Final. That's probably the most famous 15 metre penalty of all time. It cost the Dees a spot in the Grand Final.
They changed it to 50 metres to discourage players from deliberately holding a player up after he'd taken a mark. The idea was that your team mates had a chance to man up. You got pinged 15 metres but it was considered worth it because it stopped your opponents' run. It was considered "professional".
Suddenly it changed to 50 metres and players weren't so keen to give away a "professional" 50 metre penalty. In fact it wasn't very professional at all since it often brought players within range of goal. So that ugly habit of scragging opponents to stop the run-on was virtually eliminated from the game.
So far so good. But then the stupid bastards got the bright idea to start handing out 50 metre penalties for just about anything. Like running across the mark. Or clipping a bloke in the ear after he'd taken a mark. And it just softer and softer.
And they also started reporting players for softer and softer offences. In the old days you clipped a bloke in the ears. And then sometime later he'd clip you in the ears and you'd be square. These days the White Maggot Mafia are on to you like a ton of bricks. You get reported, penalised 50 metres and rubbed out for 2 games. Christ, they even ping you 50 metres for abusing the Umpire these days. It's pathetic.
The AFL has got a fetish for regulating every aspect of the game. And so now we've got a game more like basketball than football. And the team that gets the most soft free kicks and 50 metre penalties is usually declared the winner.
And no. I'm no relation to Rotten Ronnie.
