Bucks Says Mick is Right Man

I would suggest the backing of the captain means a little more than the bagging of the fickle and opportunistic.

great article by Bucks. As a player in a leadership position, I have also held the belief that if a playing group is motivated for and by each other results follow regardless of the specific game plan a coach prefers.
If success is predicated by the attitude of the players then it follows that a lack of success stems from the same origin; yet the coach often cops the brunt of the criticism.
Get back on top.

To be sure, there are no better PR departments in Australian sport, but that aside it seems patently obvious that the interpretation within the club differs radically from that offered by the Eddie haters in the media and the young and the restless on this forum.
A more positive interpretation of our slide was reinforced today in Sam Lane's article (The Age), and of course Burnsy, Clemo, Eddie and Greg Swann have unequivocally backed the club over the last month or so. You can call it PR if you want, but there may come a time when even the most bitter sceptics will have to accept that the loyalty and unity the club is showing may actually be more representative of reality than say a Mike Sheahan or Robert Walls article.
[I'm no MBA, but if PR is critical in sport today given the sensitivity of sponsorship arrangements and the importance of media-based revenue, it's an all-or-nothing situation where you either embrace it as a necessary evil or rail against it].
There is nothing else Bucks could have said both from a PR and character point-of-view (not to mention the rational arguments he could've employed related to injuries, recruitment cycles and premiership coaches). If he loved Mick a year ago and dropped him today he would look as insipid as all those supporters who thought Mick was a genius in Round 20, 2003, but hurl abuse at him now. Bucks is more substantial than that, and finally, under Eddie, so is the club.
My main reason for so vociferously defending Mick and Eddie on this forum is not because I think they're perfect (and I'm certainly yet to make it through a match this year without cursing and swearing), but because I don't want to see the club dragged back to the dark ages by a rot that sets in from the supporters up.
Such is the power of Nicks on the media landscape!

As per the norm, the usual suspects in our "supporter" base spewing the same old crap on each and every Pie forum. (The smarter forums have banned the perenial whingers... now I know why and support that decision 100%!)
How about a nice dose of shut the **** up and start supporting the side? Yes things are tough this year, but we've hardly had a full squad out on the park have we? I'm supporting Malthouse, McGuire, Swann and Bucks to the very end. The Club couldn't be in better hands yet we get the same old same old individuals (you know who they are!) whinging, whineing, talking crap, talking lies, making up ridiculously stupid 'jokes'. Well **** you! This is my club. This is the team I barrack for... win lose or draw.
Side by Side We stick together? Prove it!
And I thought Richmond had the fair-weather supporters.
Barrack hard or get the hell out of this Club!

i barrack for this club as much as any1 and i will always barrack for them no matter what! but u cannot honestly accept some of the moves MM has made of late! fair enuff we are missing most of our best players, wheres the depth! mm and the recruiting department have alot to answer for, 2 years we have wasted our first round picks on Nixon n Morrison, wat the hell has morrison done to make me think he was worth our first round pick! we need a fresh start, thats y i say get Gary O'donell, his coached under Leigh Matthews and Kevin Sheedy 2 of the best coaches of the last 30 years! n maybe if u thought about y ppl are complaining n whinging maybe it cos they love this club so much they dont want to see it %$^ up again like the late 90's where as you are prepared to go along for the ride!

Always to put a negative spin on anything positive. Does that make Tess neutral ?Tess wrote:That thread goes back to 2000! The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Mick is the man. I have full faith in him.
Look at our kids playing. They're going to be awesome and we will be a true power in 2 years. You can't expect to come 2nd in successive years and not have some fallout in the junior ranks. Look at brisbane they're now truely off their perch and Matthews is also a bloody good coach. I think Brisbane have got less to look forward to in the junior ranks than us and are merely relying now on past recruits who won't be around long.
Its the system and not the coach.
Mick's press conference today was fantastic. Listen to it at afl.com. How could our reserve side possibly be so competetive against one of the top sides if it wasn't for brilliant game strategy. I think we did much better in 2002 than we should've on paper and succeeded far beyond our potential. This is good coaching. Mark my words our turnaround will be much briefer than others like brisbane. Yeh they may take another year or 2 to spoon out but they certainly won't be in the top 4 this year.
Malthouse is an under-rated supercoach. He will be in the ranks of Sheedy and we can't let go of him. Lets face it even Sheedy wouldn't have lasted so long at Collingwood on if he did as well with us as he's done with Essendon.
We have the best captain and coach in the comp. We will prevail.
