Flooding won't stop because it stops teams from being blown out of the water. I'm not sure how it is a bad idea if it will improve our game beyond the BS that has been on the table for the past 3-4 years (probably longer).
Nice to see some morons make suggestions of their own rather than post BS like "Worst idea ever".
I do not agree that this will be overcome by other coaches strategising to overcome it. The current strategy by most coaches is to let it happen, but chip around until space can be found.

WTF has flooding got to do with netball? Will stopping flooding make people soft? Do you think flooding is good for football?Dale61 wrote:Yeah, great idea, then make the players wear skirts, and bibs with GA, GD, C, etc, divide the ground into three sections, and change the name of the game to netball.
What is your suggestion? Coaches will do what they can to reduce a loss, and flooding will not dissapear.

It was just a suggestion on how to stop flooding. Preventing players from entering a 'zone' will open up the forward lines, and thus, no flooding.
Your suggestion of fining clubs who flood is paramount to the AFL telling coaches how their team will play every week. 'OK Mr. Malthouse, this week if you allow any more than 7 players at any time to enter the back 50, we will hand your club a $500 fine.'

I understand that Steve, but a fail to see how flooding is good for football. We cann't keep changing rules, but flooding is doing more harm to our game than any rule change ever has.
Dale, it's just like coaches used to instruct their players to hit at the arms of leading forwards, the AFL changed that.

This would then allow the attacking team to push all 18 men forward of their F50, giving them a distinct advantage.
Picture this: The Scum (any scum will do) have the ball. They are 5 points in front with 2 minutes remaining. Tarrant, Didak and Davis are all alone inside our F50. The 18 from the scum are playing keepings-off against our 15. Time expires with Collingwood having ZERO possessions in the final two minutes.
Sorry Cam, but not one of your better ideas.

I say it's the worst idea ever because it simply is! Next thing we'll see FIFA handing out fines to soccer clubs for playing out 0-0 draws or something.Joel wrote:Flooding won't stop because it stops teams from being blown out of the water. The fact is that flooding is here and coaches have to work around it, it's what they're paid for. They shouldn't rely on the AFL to bail them out.
I don't know about you guys but all i care about is seeing Collingwood win their matches, i don't care how they do it, as long as they have more points on the board than the opposition. The 'spectacle' of the game is a distant second to me.

I care how Collingwood win a game. Yeah, I would rather win crap than lose fancy, but the fact remains that it is a blight on our game.
Yes, I follow Collingwood first, but with the brand of football we play we will struggle to retain supporters in the future.
FIFA? What a load of crap.
Magpie_Devil, good teams will beat it anyway. Crap teams will continue to use it because it lessens the chance of their side being blown off the park. How do you suggest that coaches overcome it? Other than kick long - which coaches refuse to do.

Fair enough that you're not happy with the standard, i'm not gonna argue with that. I'm not particularly pleased either but my priority is seeing Collingwood win however they can.
But bringing in fines just because teams flood? Come on...
I'm not sure what your point is about FIFA, i'm just drawing a hypothetical analogy.

Exactly, if you're good enough, you'll beat the flood no matter what. My only suggestion is KICK IT LONG, not let the AFL intervene like a bunch of pussies.Joel wrote:Magpie_Devil, good teams will beat it anyway.
