Why Girls go for Nasty Guys?

I have to do an essay for school on 'Why Girls go for Nasty Guys?' or i guess you could call them "Bad Boys". Anyone have any thoughts??

Because they get government benefits when they are in jail.

Partly: bad boy = violent and (in our mixed up female minds) therfore protective (usually means possessive, obsessive etc.)

Secondly: women (in general) like to think they can reform the bad-boy. This is of course the final irony: you're attracted to someone's "badness"
then once you've got him, spend all your time trying to change it.

These are of course gross generalisations - happens so often though (we all have friends who do this and maybe even do it ourselves)
