I don't agree with what you are trying to say Digs... Our forward set-up is looking good with Tarrant in good touch and Mal contributing as he gets his match fitness back, with A. Rocca taking solid marks, most of the time.
You say that most of our goals come from beyond 40m, and that if Sav was in the side, we would have a target up there that we could kick to and he could take the contested marks within close range. But let me tell you this.. The amount of contested marks that are taken does not depend on where you are. Anthony Rocca takes these marks all over the ground! Also, Sav normally kicks his goals from 40 metres out as well, so I don't know how he would improve our goal kicking distance.
But don't get me wrong. I wan't Sav to come back in the side and he should stay as long as he is fit.
Plus, the fact that we kick our goals from further out is not a bad thing, as we have players who can make the distance and this helps open up the forward line because the opposition needs to man up further out from the goals to stop A. and S. Rocca, Bucks, Willo from kicking goals beyond the 50. So, in effect, we are opening gaps in our forward line for players to lead into.

Ask not what your club can do for you. Ask what you can do for your club.

A very good summary Banksy.
Some people would argue your figures aren't a great reflection of the "real SAV" as he's been injured for large parts of the past 3 years. From my point of view his inability to shake injuries is actually another reason to cut our losses, count the blessings we had 94 - 97 and start forming a new forward structure.
As for the point raised elsewhere (by Alf, I think) about freeing up the salary cap: we are obliged to spend 95% of it no matter who we have on the list. I don't agree with that rule, but that's the reality of the latest CBA with the AFLPA. More acronyms anyone?

sure, we do want to think of a premiership year, and do whatever we can to make that an option, even if it means getting rid of sav the legend, a total black and white soldier, who cares if we get rid of him, hes having a hard time at the moment so we HAVE to trade him, cause after all collingwood is all about winning of course..right?
WRONG
"LOYALTY COMMITMENT TRADITION PASSION STRENGTH FOREVER" i think that's how it goes, no where in there does it say WINNING or anything does it? no.. because we have all learnt by now that collingwood is not all about winning although we'd like it to be sometimes, and we have learnt to live with that and most of us stay around through thick and thin, but who says this should ONLY go for the club, some of you people should learn to stick by our players as well as the club through thick and thin, sure we have to think of the club as a whole and the team not just one player, but without all them ONE PLAYERS what would we have? a club? a team? i think not
collingwood is meant to be a team built around passion, but if passion involves believing in your team and believing in the players and their ability, then i seriously doubt that hardly any of you have that passion.. i'm not saying that directly at anyone so no one take that offensively or anything.. but that's just how i feel
i know i'm probably biast in a way cause i do really have faith in sav and i think he's a total star, but there are plenty of other ppl that feel the same way; emma, nikki to name a few that i THINK feel the same way, although i can see that he hasn't been playing to benefit us, but we all know of his injury problems and his lack of fitness, we also know that he is capable of the performance we have seen in past years, so thats what i think anyway, i think we should keep sav, not just get rid of him like that, i know he's had his chances in case any of you are going to write something about that. but still sav belongs at collingwood.. YOU RULE SAV! have a little faith ppl....
GO PIES

Quote from miss magpie "he's having a hard time at the moment". Try he's had a hard time for the past three years and you would be on the money. Get real. How many opportunities do you want to give him. I would agree with you if I could see him showing a bit of heart and passion but I'm afraid all I see is someone who has lost the plot and the passion to play for the mighty black and white.
Here, here
Sav does have the passion and desire as far as I can tell, but he always attracts players from the opposition and he gets double or triple teamed. That's how some Collingwood players were able to crumb the ball from the packs, like Neon Davis.

Passion is not the same thing as commitment.
Sav does not and never has played with passion. He often displays commitment.
Would he put himself "on the line" for the Black & White? Just look at how little he uses his awesome frame and you have to answer "No".
Have to agree with the comments re: BT - when he was there, Sav was the best kick for goal in the league and lead well.

Emma,
Yes I think before I speak/write.
It does not take ANY passion to stay somewhere for 9 years. Just think of the countless people who work at a place - or stay in a marriage - for 20+ years and proclaim their dislike for it the whole time (I am not accusing Sav of disliking the Woods, just showing the spurious nature of your logic that time=passion).
Have a think about why Sav started playing footy: he was a world-class shot-putter and only asked to play footy by a friend whose team needed a ruckman.
Why did he choose footy instead of possible Olympic fame? Anna & $$$.
Not a passion for the game (unlike his brother).
