No, it's a no. People abuse post counts. There is still a way to check it, but I can't remember how, and I wouldn't publically say how anyway.
Post counts are irrelevant. If you post regularly, people know who you are. Post counts are just a glorified measure of how much you may contribute to a forum. Realistically, they don't do the job that well.

If you are a member of the bored board you can view how many posts you have you goto the usergroup goto member list and find your own name.
Could the post counts be held for the user to only see? Like you can see your own post count and no one elses? Probably cannot be done, but that would solve it maybe?
But going back there is a way to view your post count that way, not sure about any other ways.
