For those that can remember, Josh used to play in a helmet, due to a severe concussion, which could have quite easily ended his career there and then.
He had the captaincy at Essendon reserves for a few years before returning to Williamstown, and was one of the better year-round performers in their premiership season.

Heath Shaw will do the job on him next week...saints do not have a medium sized defender. Their defence is quite undermanned. We have multiple options.
Next week, Wakelin will most likely come back into the side to help tame Lade, Tredrea, White, Mahoney, Motlop and even Chad Cornes. Interesting to see whether harry will retain his spot.

There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

Valid point Eunos. I agree. However it may be argued that Rupe was a better player at Collingwood than Josh was, and as much as I "liked" Rupe, he was not the way forward for the Pies and his total worth was probably vindicated by the lack of clubs interested in him on his delisting. Tough luck in the hard world of footy hey!Eunos wrote:Funny how we get regular "why did we cut Rupe" threads, yet here's a guy who we cut and he recovered to become an integral part of Port.
Meanwhile Rupe has done..........??
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!

Just looking at 'family ties' ahead of the 2023 Draft
Elliot Mahoney's father Josh is Essendon's football manager.
Josh played in Port Adelaide's premiership side in 2004 (where he racked up 7 possessions), but played 97 games across his three-club career with Collingwood, the Bulldogs and Power.
I honestly can't remember Josh Mahoney. He played two seasons with us over 1997-98 for 19 games, before being traded / let go early during the new Malthouse regime.

84 Josh Mahoney Collingwood Williamstown 1996
85 Brad Scott Hawthorn Hawthorn Reserves 1996
86 Ben Parker Adelaide Murray U18 1996
87 Brad Fuller Collingwood NSW-ACT U18 1996
88 Phillip Smith Hawthorn West Perth 1996
89 Dwayne Griffin Collingwood Swan Districts 1996
This says it all about that inept **** Judkins' recruiting during the 90s.
IIRC Mahoney was traded to Footscray late 1998, in exchange for Tyson Lane, which at the time I was absolutely stoked with.
