Welcome to Collingwood / Farewell #37 Sam Illes

Great to see another young player getting an opportunity, and taking it. Looks good for the future :D

He needs to improve his delivery

He turned it over about 8 times

Bode touched him up.

Bad move by MM to play him against Adelaide. It cost us the game.

Sam Illes needs to learn to kick...

Like most Tasmanians.

I'm really happy to see that more of our recruited youngsters not only have decent leg speed, as well as a decent footy brain as Sam seems to have.

Gee, you'd almost think he might have been nervous in his first game

Cut the kid some bloody slack. A rookie listed player playing his first game and in a finals type game! Despite some of his earlier mistakes, he came into the game quite well, backed himself and ws atleast prepared to run some of the lines a bit! More than I can say for some of the other players that remained static the whole game and gave us no run at all!

He wasn't rookie listed, he was PSD and he will soon find there is no slack in AFL footy. You are only as good as your 22nd player. He found the pill pretty well so lots of positives. I just had been told he had silky skills and he doesn't.

Granted that he was selected in the PSD, but my point remains. I dont recall Pendlebury setting the world on fire in his first game and did get caught with the ball a few time. Thomas also scrubbed a few of his kicks in his first couple games! So should we rip into every first game of first year player that makes a few mistakes. Its all apart of the learning curve. Give them a chance Mate!

I said we should have waited till the Essendon game to blood him. Pendles should have been kept in and it was probably the difference. Still top 4 position isn't really important.

Sam Illes good luck for the future, please learn how to kick else you are just another version of Ryche Shaw, who must have disappeared off the earth.

Ryche Shaw would have been a good inclusion on the w/e.

Actually he was a national draft player that didn't get picked up and we got him in the PSD, so considering Stanley was rated well ahead of him by at least 50 picks (with very few of those 50 players getting a senior game yet), he hasn't done bad at all

It doesn't matter where you are drafted once you get picked.

Judd doesn't give players special compensation cause they are only picked in the PSD.

Guerra was an option too.

Or just draft him in the original draft.

If he was so good, why let every other team have the chance to have a crack at him?
