New Social Club

Post by Neil Appleby »

Patrick Smith reported in today's Australian the details of Collingwood's deal with the MCC regarding a new social club.
He also suggests a new gym/training venue at Olympic Park is being considered as Collingwood contemplates leaving VicPark completely.
Now let me guess what the reaction to this will be.
Everyone here will immediately reject the proposal out of hand.
Go on surprise me!
It sounds a sensational deal to me; I just hope it comes off.

I don't believe it!! Have we actually managed to get the better of someone in a deal, by playing one suitor off against the other????

If it's true, it's a top deal. All you moaners who go on about the suits etc who ruin the game should approve of this deal.

Wonders never cease, but I'll believe it when I see it!

I like the idea! However there should remain some sort of link to Vic Park. If everything indicated in the article fell through I think it would great for the future of the club. Remember people, to be the best and most professional the club should not stand for second rate facilities.

I think the ending quote describes everything:

There was something in that deal about 18,000 seats.

Now, if this deal was being done for the benefit of Collingwood members those 18,000 seats would be free walk-up seating for Social Club members.

But of course I'm dreaming, aren't I. I can guarantee that those seats will be reserved. And the prices will be the usual Collingwood price ... totally frigging exhorbitant.

So, the deal is just going to provide yet another avenue for Collingwood Inc. to make another corporate killing.

It sucks.

I am with you, London Dave. It seems incredulous that we may have carved ourselves a "good deal", but I hope it is true.

I am sick of reading how well Carlscum and Essodon (I am sure one day they will be sponsored by Esso) are setting themselves up for the future with their deals.

It would be great to have a permanent base at the MCG (as well as Vic Park). My preference is always for my money to go to the club, not the AFL or the ground I am at. Bugger buying pokie venues out in the suburbs!

A Collingwood and MCC alliance, ripper. Don't you all see, they need us. They are involved in a battle with Colonial and Channel 7. They need our numbers to pack the place round after round, year after year. We should be able to make a mint out of the place.

And Alf, hopefully the seats will only be reserved for the block busters. Hopefully our club will look after the ordinary supporters better than Carlton did with their new Princess Park deal (how many walk up seats are there?) and Essendon and their move to Colonial.

I for one will be joining the Social Club next year. I would have this year if they were still playing seniors out at Vic Park.

Also, even if they get the training facilities at Olympic Park, surely the ground at Vic Park will be kept for resies games. At least until the contract runs out with the Council.
