Love Soccer, but too Many Soccer References??
I have made a deal with a mate of mine to go to every soccer World Cup until I die and I am a big soccer fan, but the number of references to soccer, both negative and positive, in the General Discussion section of what is a footy forum seems to be getting out of hand (my own posts included).
Is this just a temporary off-season flare up of code tension, or are the endless comparisons, attacks, code promotions and cross-code team love-ins here to stay?
[Sorry, I had to edit this post a couple of times because I made a total hash of it.]

I guess the site is just naturally quiet this time of year, so sports like soccer, cricket and tennis will make up a decent proportion of topics.
Once the season starts, I doubt it will be an issue any more.

But that comment is one huge contradiction !bazdaddy wrote:Just the latest fad, which is what soccer will be this time of the year from now on.
You say its a fad
Then you say its going to be like that every year
Fads or a fad dont have such a lenghty life span..
What are you trying to say ?
I take it you mean...redneck Australia has finally grown up ?
Excellent and its about time we did!

I enjoy the odd game of EPL (go arsenal) and when the Aussies play but when the soccer lovers start bashing AFL Australia's only true sport made here in AUS it pisses me off no end. Aussie rules is the greatest sport in this country (and world for that matter IMO) and anyone who says differently can expect a barrage especially when they say it on a FOOTY forum made for AFL supporters.
This shouldn't stop discussions on other sports but it tends to always end up a my dads better than your dad.
Go pies.

I have no problem with people enjoying the soccer and expressing their glee at the atmosphere, even though it does little for me. However, in endeavouring to propagate soccer on here, some have denigrated the virtues of AFL and how we support our game. Amusing that if you challenge them you are either-" Narrow minded", "Uneducated or a "Redneck". Soccer supporters being so cultured and worldly.

Re: Love Soccer, but too Many Soccer References??
There's a facility for reporting any such non-footy (AFL) topics in GD. The blue square. Top right of every post.pietillidie wrote:the number of references to soccer, both negative and positive, in the General Discussion section of what is a footy forum seems to be getting out of hand (my own posts included).
Quite correct, Jacqui. That IS the case.Proud Pies wrote:i think all soccer/rugby/etc (i.e. anything NOT AFL) should be in the sports bar so we Collingwood fans don't have to see it if we don't want to.
Donny.
It's a game. Enjoy it.
