Have another look at the 2002 and 2003 Grand Finals.

josh is alot better then the many of the other rucks going around, ur all only critical of him cos he doesn't also kick 4 goals a game and take 10 marks in defence. He had a bad half on friday, but second half, i saw him do alot of taps to advantage and do some pretty good work. He has done good for many years, just been our only bloke in ruck so hes never really been used down forward for a while. Once richards works out how to touch the ball consitantly josh will probably start kicking a few goals a game as well as providing a usual presence in bounce downs, just get of his back, only ruck id rather then him is cox, sanderlands is sht house.

he went back firday night and done alright, took i nice grab.. When he gets over his niggles, the champ will be able to make more space and become our link man more often. Most versatile player in the AFL yeh true that.

I think you make an interesting point Tannin.

Josh doesn't take enough contested marks up forward in my view, but he could play a Tarrant-like role with his agility and leading ability. He's also a very reliable kick for goal.

He's not strong enough or aggressive enough to be a top notch #1 ruckman.

I'd like to see him tried as a backman or on the wing.

It won't happen but I'd like him to play CHB for a while.

Either that or place Cloke back there and put Josh at CHF and just give both time to get the ball.

Clokey really needs some pressure taken off; he isn't getting enough of the ball or imposing himself. A stint at HB may do the trick I reckon.

Really wracking my memory here, but did Josh play at CHB in our NAB Cup win over St Kilda in 2006? :?

Anyhow, a nice idea, but is he accountable enough?

Josh Fraser question ??

Post by drew1602 »

When will we see Guy Richards in the ruck and Josh in the forward line?? or even visa versa..Didnt MM state that Josh will play forward more often this year?? In the practice match against St Blunda it worked a treat...I would have thought that the best way to play Josh into some form would be to keep him on the ground when not rucking not cooling his heels on the bench..I cant recall a sustaine dperiod this year when both Josh and guy have been on the ground together...Dont get me wrong i think MM has been doing quite well so far with all othe moves/ team selections except this one....With no Didak, Bux or Rusling...any extra fire power that takes a good defender to stop... aka Josh Fraser must be an advatage !!

The only reason i can think of is if Josh isnt fully fit or is carrying a niggling injury..if this is the case, i will put my trust in MM and the medicos to play Josh how and where ever they wish..

Every time Josh is on the bench, he is not actually on the bench,
He is lying on his stomach with 2 trainers working on his legs. Looking at that when it occurs seems to indicate he is incapable of seeing out a full game.

Josh was brilliant last Friday?

Where exactly? At home in the kitchen? Perhaps on his game console (or whatever those things are called).

If Josh was brilliant on Friday it certainly wasn't at the MCG.

He wasn't brilliant against the Roos either, but some have praised his game against the Eagles; I didn't see that game.

Josh was taken off the ground and given a huge spray in round 1.
Hardly the sort of thing that happens to a player battling injury.

I don't think Josh is battling injury. Once he walks onto the ground he's fit.......isn't that the coaching mantra?

He's just not playing well enough. End of story.

hes played two poor games, and one decent one, being the latest. He will run himself into form and to say that he should be trade bait is ridiculous

When people had the temerity to say Tarrant should be trade bait last September Nick's almost went into meltdown.

I remember the CEO saying that the club had very few 'untouchables".

I think Rocca is untouchable and also Clement.
I'd place Daisy in that group too and also Cloke.
These are the players you build around and it is exactly what MM is doing.

Fraser SHOULD be an untouchable but he isn't.

He won't be trade bait simply because no-one else can do the job.
Josh is hardly an imposing big man. He may become one and I sure hope he does....but I think the clock is ticking and it's now or never.

I don't think he's untouchable, but I do think he is better than many people remember (some have forgotten his good seasons in 03 and 06). I guess I don't expect him to be a megastar--solid form once he hits his straps will be enough for me. Trade is definitely always an option for a player of his age who gets paid (presumably) as much as he does. It probably is time to put pressure on him and see if he can step up another gear (at least in terms of consistency).

It's utterly irrelevant what he promised and what we expected of him. We've got him now and, in the absence of a real quality ruckman, he will continue to play in the ruck (at the very least, he will continue to share with either Stretch or Bryan). He was shit in the first half against Richmond - although it was hard to spot amongst our general crapulence - but he was one of those responsible for kickstarting our revival in the second half. I agree with those posters who say he doesn't look fit. It would be nice to know if he has been carrying an injury.
