Prior to 2000, Collingwood have never rebuilt, regardless of what Tony Shaw and latter-day Leigh Matthews have said.
They've supplemented - they'd both gone out and recruited a vast assortment of rejects, misfits and cast-offs from other Clubs who they hoped could supplement the existent players on the List.
In 99, Shaw blooded all the young guys, but probably because he was asked to for the incoming Coach. But he didn't look to rebuild because, obviously, he couldn't do so or look to do so when he knew he wouldn't be Coach for the following Season.
Y2Malty's proclamation of rebuilding is the first honest attempt they've (Collingwood, that is) made to do so by removing as much as the deadwood as they possibly could for the 2000 Season and recruiting youth that will, hopefully, carry Collingwood in good stead through the coming years.
I don't like the "rebuilding" schtick either, but this is the first time they've actually really done so since 86-87. Y2Malty's actually starting as fresh as he possibly can, whereas Shaw and Matthews were always trying to supplement and build on the residue of the 90 Premiership Team.
