I don't normally do this but I called this last year, I thought that Daisy was a bit flashy but pendles had the real 'special' quality, a once in a generation type.
I was wrong on daisy, i reckon he does the hars stuff as well but I reckon i wasn't far off on pendles. A buckley calibre player in the making.

I dont believe he needs it if he has one other attribute, long precise kicking.
I dont know if he's got that yet, cos if he does, i havent seen him doing much of it. Id rather he be able to side-step a bloke, and spear it forward 40m to a teammate a-la-Buckley, than put it under his arm and run the first 15-20 and chip it.
The Judd method looks better, but the Buckley method is much faster when you think about it.

Daisy and Pendles are completely different players, as you indicated at first. Daisy IS flashy, but not lazy. He will break games open on his own. Pendles won't do that nearly as much, but on probably more occasions, it will be his deadly accuracy and un-taggable work around stoppages that will allow people like Daisy to break games open.
Im eager to see Pendles tagged by a real tagger...not like the blue hacks who tried to man-handle him today...because i just dont beleive his style of play is easily stymmied by a tagger.
How do you tag someone that feels completely at ease grabbing a ball from mid-air, TURNING BACK and running thru the clutching arms of 3 opposition players, before spinning back around and kicking it to a team-mate 30m down the line? What are you supposed to do? grab him? Good bloody luck.

I still reckon Bucks had more speed (as a younger man anyway )Zakal wrote:eddiesmith wrote:Nope, unfortunately he will never be that good as he doesnt have the burst away pace

Although he doesnt get caught, he occassionally does rush a disposal that puts other under pressure, but I also think he is the best of our recent draftees. Better than Daisy but they compliment each other

Hmm..i cant remember that far back to Bucks as a young man. hehe. Bucks was also a lot bigger physically than Pendles, so if push came to shove, and he did get caught, he could break his way free whereas Pendles cant just yet.eddiesmith wrote:I still reckon Bucks had more speed (as a younger man anyway )Zakal wrote:eddiesmith wrote:Nope, unfortunately he will never be that good as he doesnt have the burst away pace

I was watching the game today, and there was one moment, i cant quite recall when, but Pendles was loping (cos thats what he does) towards one of Carltons quicker players (might have been Betts...but not sure) and he actually seemed to be closing him down. Its sort of like the long, loping strides of someone fairly tall that allows him to catch a "faster-looking" but shorter guy purely on the length of stride as opposed to the pace of "leg-movement" if that makes sense. Given his style, its hard to tell when he is trying to chase someone down. With Daisy its easy, cos thats most of the time, but im not sure half the time if Pendles has decided to run them down, or just carrell to force an error.
Id like to see him in a straight sprint with someone like Rhyce (who we know is damn fast) just to see how his "pace" is structured (i.e. first 5m, first 20m, then the long-chase of 30-40m).

There is nothing slow about pendles. And yes I gree they are different players. Im not sure daisy is a gamebreaker yet. His goalkickng is to wayward for that atm. whereas pendles is often deadly accurate.
However, i very pleased we have both of them
Bucks was never a speester. I good reder of the play and someone who can find time and space, allof which pendles is, can look very fast. He just doesn't ever panic. Lots of class.

l.......................l this much.
Yeah, that goes for all of them though. They have all performed in big games. That is the benefit of playing for the Carringbush. And I think each win has been different. Today they played a real finals type game, scrappy, tough, fast and tight. Against essendon it was a reall free flowing game. Againt the tigers it was a real grinding win. They are very adaptable.
Now if we can outrun the dogs this week we will be doing very well.

Don't forget he is only a boy yet. This young man is going to be great, I made the statement some weeks ago that he has the potential to be as good as Judd, maybe not with the same burst away pace but the way he is continually improving he will certainally have that special something that will enable him to shape the outcome of a game.

I was questioning whether to comment, however, I can't believe such a dumb thread was constructed. You cannot compare them they're two different contrasting players. I don't think we should be applying so much pressure as of yet. Let him play his style. If he's the difference in getting us a premiership or winning those important games then that would be the true test of character.

Agree Foxy...i just hope he doesnt read any of this because the last thing you want to do is overburden him with expectations.foxychick wrote:I was questioning whether to comment, however, I can't believe such a dumb thread was constructed. No doubt Chris Judd would have been compared to past greats, with those people comparing him shouted down as well.
We have a very exciting prospect in Scott Pendlebury and who knows what heights he may reach?
Remember one thing, if everyone on this site was critical of others just because they dared post something that not all people agreed with, we would in very quick time not have a site.
We live in a society that supposedly encourages freedom of speech, lets please not be too hasty to condemn others just because we do not agree with what they have to say.
Cheers and have a great day.
