Pies legend Len Thompson dies
September 18, 2007
COLLINGWOOD ruck legend Len Thompson died of a heart attack at home today, three weeks after his 60th birthday.
Early reports suggest he fell at home, at the time of his shock death.
The winner of the 1972 Brownlow Medal and five Copeland Trophies, he was a member of Collingwood's Team of the Century.
The Magpies recruited the 200cm Thompson from North Reservoir and he went on to play 268 games for the club in a career at Victoria Park between 1965 and 1978.

Its amazing that Len debuted on 18/09/1965 and died 18/09/2007, exactly 42 years to the day.

Never met Thommo, but people who have like joffa all say he was a great guy.
Now as a player- he was supreme.
Make no mistake, Len was as good as they get, his performances in 1977 finals beating 2 opposing ruckmen every week had to be seen to be believed.
THOMMO POWER!

Is a very sad day in the history of the Collingwood FC, Len was a fantastic community minded bloke, always willing to have a chat to any and everybody. He will be proud as punch with the effort on last Friday night, but lets give something to his memory, lets win the flag in honour of the late great Len Thompson.
What a bombshell, im shocked. My thoughts are with the family, lets hope the great club that Len served can pay tribute to him in the best possible manner.
RIP Len Thompson.
