BWAHHAHAH this thread is a classic.
I love the range of comments:
- He's too big a risk
(At this point, in my mind, he is definitely the best player from that draft, but Daisy will catch up the ground he lost this year).
- He's an outside player, bit of a receiver.
(Ask Tarrant if he thinks Pendles is a receiver? Then ask the Carlton bloke in the highlights video than Pendles poleaxes with a hip and shoulder...and then ask Daniel Merret who gets smashed in a Pendles tackle in our goalsquare)
- Not another basketballer with no skill
(.... hahahahah *breathes* hahahha)
- He will be our next CHB.
(could be...but in god's name why?)
and now my personal favourite:
- He is NOT a midfielder.
(....no comment).
Love your work Pendles, imo you are the perfect blend of class, agility, skill, toughness and temperament.
This guy is THE blueprint for the modern footballer. Apparently he is of the Greening mould, and if so Greening was well in advance of his time...but Pendles is here right on time.
Ellis? Ellis? Who the F*%#* is Ellis?

Nice Summary Zakal, especially the last bit. I can see myself chanting that at inappropriate times.
I was also struck at some of the names who've moved on in such a short space of time, apart from Voldemort who seems to continually resurect. (but hasn't for a while so shoosh......... )

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Yeah there was something funny about that draft.stui magpie wrote:Nice Summary Zakal, especially the last bit. I can see myself chanting that at inappropriate times.

I know i was overseas and wasnt really getting too much footy news. Managed to scam someones wireless connection in some dark street in London to find out, to my dismay (at the time) that we had used the two picks we earned thru a year of humiliating suffering on two blokes who were tipped to still be available come the pick we would have had if we made the 8.
Then i calmed down and found out a bit more about these two guys and became more and more impressed as i went. Once i saw the footage i was sold. The only thing that remained for them to show was consistency and the right attitude, as it was abundantly clear both were supremely talented.
With that accomplished, the final piece of the puzzle to vindicate this decision once and for all was for Ellis to be outperformed by both of them.
Check.
I think Murphy is great, and would probably be even better in a side thats actually half competant....but for my money (and theres probably some bias here) if Carlton came up to us tomorrow and said we'll give you Murphy and a 3rd round pick for Pendlebury or Daisy i'd tell them to shove it. In actual fact i'd probably try and come up with some witty play on words about Pratt or Cardboard that has the same effect, but still!
hehe
As at end of season 07 the top 3 (in my mind) is Pendlebury, Thomas then Murphy.
Only Pendles has got within 1 vote of winning a club best and fairest, and his club came within 5pts of winning a flag (Port suck), Murphy's team came within 5pts of coming last. (not quite, but who cares).

When GF was the rumour early in 2006 and rumour suddenly became fact, I was shattered. While Dale is good, Scott is sublime, bordering on genius.
In 1979 a young pimple-faced mulleted Maco kid hit the park and the whispers went round "How good is this kid going to be?" Those whispers steadily became a roar.
In 1994 another mullet of a different sort hit Victoria Park and once again the whispers went around the outer and once again their grew to an almighty roar.
And it goes back further than that. Tuddenham, Thompson, McKenna, Greening, Price, Rose, Fothergill, Whelan, Richards, etc, etc, etc.
2007 has seen the emergence of the next in a long, long line of supremely gifted Magpie champions and yes I wholeheartedly concur. A future premiership captain and the future is a lot closer than many may think.
