tape, richo, schaubs shouldn't go. remember schaubs has only been around for 3-4 years, and he's only 22. what's more he's something of a leader (school captain of xavier college, i know it doesn't mean much but it's a nice tidbit). tape is still athletic and desperate and would fit nicely into a malthouse-style defence. richo is versatile and tall. watto would be good trade bait, only 25 and versatile. not sure that was raso should go, i think he's pretty slick. kirwen is an total no-go, has no skills, is simply an athlete. i've been pretty impressed with manfield, he's still young and he's bloody big, could be another 'cult' player like betho. salisbury is also a pretty decent player. whatever happens, the list of delistings at the end of the year will be the most interesting read in donkeys years.

until wasley starts playing better footy than Port's Nick Stevens I think you should shut up about him. He may be a future player but at this stage you could question why we let Stevens go through and get picked just after Wasley. Oh yeah, and those comments about Wasley being a champion if he could kick are just great - lets draft footballers who can't kick. I guess that's why Kirwen is on the list too - an athlete that can't play footy. Can't wait for MM to put an end to this ridiculous recruiting strategy.
PS Does anyone know goal-kickers/best players for the ressies? Both papers did not report them. At least one Pies team will make the finals. Will be good for Davis, Scotland, Lockyer, Tarrant, Kinnear & co to play on the 'G in September.

why is it so unacceptable to praise and encourage youngsters? sure, i might praise in excess, but until this year we have NEVER encouraged our young players. take presti for example, everyone has always been so cynical about him, and now he's turning into a fine player, and what does everyone do, you decide to love him all of a sudden. the same goes for wazza. he's my favourite player to watch, his pace is beautiful, and if you think is kicking is bad take a look at his performance against west coast earlier this year. the kids need every bit of encouragement we can give them - the hawks supporters do it and it is slowly paying dividends. of course with the arrival of malthouse the club will become professional and high-brow - the players won't have personalities, they'll just be robots. it'll be great to watch on the field i'm sure, just i'll miss the collingwood of the last few years, when even though i cried into my scarf every week i always kept my faith because it was a good, decent club.

My problem with wasley is not with wasley but the recruiters. We overlooked a genuine class footballer in Stevens in favour of an athletic type who will need a bit of luck to develop. With the game so tight I would have thought the percentage thing to do with such a pick would be to go for the guy who will play senior footy earlier especially when we need to fast track our team. The Club and supporters should not compare our players against each other since logically you are comparing them to the worst in the league. Draft picks should be graded against players of the same draft. And my opinion is that Stevens with a handful of BOGs, regular senior performances and strong media acknowledgement is that far ahead of Wasley its not funny. In fact one good indicator is to ask other Club supporters who James Wasley is ? Lets hope we don't make the same mistakes in this year's draft - so far so good with last year's crop.

Thanks to Foxy, James Wasley has had more mileage than any other player on this website.
Can somebody confirm that he has spent the majority of his time in the reserves during the last few months so he can qualify for the finals? His form was certainly not consistent, however there did seem to be times when he wasn't given much chance to prove himself.

Mick,
Nick Stevens was a 17 year old at the time and each club could only choose one. We took Tarrant as our 17 year old at number 7 and so after that Nick Stevens was impossible. Wasley was not a bad pick at the time and it is unfair to compare him with Stevens. Compare Stevens with Tarrant if you wish. Stevens is ahead right now in that comparison, but hopefully Tarrant will develop into a champion key position player.
