Yes I know Broadie - guilty as charged. Sounds like our taste in music is pretty close.
The only reason that he remembers Janis Ian's name is because I have the the strat that she used on two of her more recent albums, 'Hunter' and 'Revenge' so that gives her some credibility in his eyes (the fact that she actually held a strat). I also have her original lyrics for 'Watercolors' (from 'Between the Lines') scrawled on a writing pad with cross-outs and alterations and they're framed and hang over the piano. So he knows her music and he knows that she was once very famous, I think 'Between the Lines' still holds the record for the most successful album by a female artist, but her music does nothing for him.
Unfortunately Nick's a guitar freak and the more metal the better. The band that he idolises has been around only a decade or so less than Janis Ian, but he knows all their stuff backwards - Metallica. The analogy with Hendrix doesn't hold though - he could probably play you most of his stuff, but I don't reckon he could name one Dylan track.
Happy Birthday Nick!

Happy Birthday Nick, hope ya had a lervely day etc. Metallica????
I was a Suicidal Tendencies/LA skate punk man in days of yore. Still crank out the Black Flag etc to disturd the neighbours though. Not quite metal but loud and angry! Enjoy it while you can, you've got Dean Martin and Dusty Sringfield to look forward to.
