How good you are as a player makes some difference to how you are perceived as a "commodity" in female sports but how you look tends to over power that by a mile. Hence, Anna K, Sabitini, etc.
It does not seem to be the case in male sports. You either have it or you don't get respect. Pretty boys can only make it so far. If you have both good luck to you.
It's a sad fact but that is the reality of a society obsessed with appearance. The truth is Anna K. is a average player hardly worth watching as a tennis player. Would I rather watch one of the Williams sisters play than Anna K.? You bet your ass. Anna was probably going somewhere until her looks took over. How many people have done that in their lives? Been distracted by the doors that good looks can open.
Having said all that I wouldn't mind watching the Australian women's hockey team going through its paces.
