Sorry jmcp, but this is old news. This has been discussed on a VFL BB since the VFL state game, but for those who are only interested in the VFL due to Collingwood's involvement, it would be news.

This was a mercy killing. The lack of support for the Tassie Devils was the death knell. Some of the state's better players refused to join the Devils preferring to support their local sides in the SFL or the NTFL. Just one example, Launceston's Adam Derbyshire. He kicked ten in Launceston's grand final win on Saturday and notched up nearly 150 this year. The Devils had a very young team. Now they will be spread throughout the State League teams. If this finally unites the state it will help the push for an AFL team.
In any case, a Tassie AFL will need to recruit from around the country just like every other AFL team. My money is on a side relocating rather than another startup.
