Thanks Dave..I understand that and realize that the Eagles would not bother picking up a player who they sacked, because they are trying to change the culture of their Club. I meant that the Eagles would not. need us to give them something in return, as he is not a member of their football club.!!

There is no need to take cousins early in the draft NO team in thier right mind would use a pick in the top 50 on a guys who has been out of the game a year, is on his last legs cronich hamstring injuries in his last year, drug problem, and finaly 1 - 2 years left to play.

I want him to come to pieland but not at any cost, pick in the 60s should get him.

Ha, just watch the Scum pull this deal out of their *&^%$.

I reckon they must have plenty of room in their salary cap since they are paying their stars through under-the-table deals. And I'm not joking, how else can they find room for Warnock? Once a salary rorting cheat, always...old habits die hard...etc.

The only question is this: Will the Scum money supply dry up when a certain "former" president goes to prison?
If carlton do pull the deal out of their arse, then maybe Collingwood should take note of what they do. In any case, I don't care what they do, the fact is they land the players they want. We don't. It's time for the men at the Lexus Centre to flex the muscle they claim they have......

Cousins is practically there for the taking. He is a superstar. It's a no-brainer. Then again, so was Tony Lockett......

but then on the other side of the coin the gold coast side will be coming in a few years so i guess topping up on young players could be a bonus as well
So with our first pick, you want us to take a 2 year player instead of a 10 year player?

Yeah right!!
Did cousins tell you he would only be around for 2 years?

In any case, it would be a scintillating 2 years in the midfield for us, something we don't really know about in recent times.

People that think we are one Ben Cousins short of a grand final first under estimate our current young players and what they can turn around in one off season... Second they over estimate the capabilities of a player Bens age coming back after one year out.... think people would Bucks be as good as he was if he returned next year?

That's because Carlton are cellar dwellers, priority picks galore! And they also have a wooden spoon collection that would make Gordon Ramsey blush!! :D

dont know about you BUT i want pies to win a flag like within the next 3-5 years NOT wait another 32 years for another 1. look at the side we have atm we have the team to do it.
I know this
Cousins is not as valuable as pick 11 in this years draft

Once you have got that worked out, the rest is easy
we have not got enough kids with 'potential' for you?

what we lack is, funnily enough, experience, a match winner in the middle, a hard gut-runner and some pure star quality. Sound like Cousins to you?

Rewind to when he returned in 07. Tell me which kid we get at number 11 in the draft will perform like he did anytime in the next 4-5 yrs.....

and people wonder why we have won nothing for so long, with such a mentality, is it any wonder? If the club thinks along similar lines, we are stuffed.

Lots of assumptions going on here.

People are assuming (a) that Ben Cousins is over his substance abuse issues; (b) that he can satisfy the AFL and interested clubs of the same; (c) that he will be able to resume at the same high level of performance after a year out of the game when he is already past 30; (d) that he could give anything up to four years' more service at the same level, which is statistically almost impossible; (e) that he is what our club most requires in the midfield, when in fact he is an elite outside endurance runner, not a clearance player; (f) that he is the difference between a top eight finish and a premiership.

I'm not saying a player of Ben Cousins' calibre wouldn't make a positive difference to the club, but once again:

EE'S NOT THE MESSIAH
EE'S A VERY NAUGHTY BOY!

Raw Hammer wrote:People, we have half our 'starting' team under 21 years of age. We have many young players, and quite a few QUALITY players who should develop into stars (Cloke, Thomas, Pendlebury, H.Shaw, etc.), plus Reid, Brown, O'Brien, Goldsack, Clarke, etc. I've just listed HALF the team (9 players, who should develop into starters next year). Add to them Fraser, Didak, Swan, Maxwell ... we have more than a dozen players who should be top-line members of the CFC. What we need now is to plug holes with experienced guns, such as Cousins, Kerr, Rutton, etc. If all we do is keep recruiting raw, young players, we'll have Didak, Fraser, Swan etc. passin 30 while the new young crop begin to develop. The cycle will never end. You have to recognise your window for success, and build towards it. Our window should be open 2009-2013 if we keep the core together. Young guns are not our priority any more. We have enough of them. We need quality, experienced onballers to play meaningful minutes during our window for success.
Nice to see someone with some common sense. :D

here is the answer to that -

Compare Bucks in his last year or 2 to Cousins when he returned for West Coast during 2007. I see a very significant difference.....

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, everything taken with a grain of salt.

Though, if we do get him, I will be just slightly excited.

if he wants to play for Collingwood we should make him state it publically like Akermanis did with the Dogs.
Other clubs had a chance Aker but because he only wanted to be with the dogs they left him.

That way every other club would risk picking a player who doesn't want to play for them.

I'm not going to tell you what I really would do if we got him, so I am keeping the lid on it.
