Surely some other club will pounce on him before we get the chance. If the Cuz was to nominate for the November draft, would it be worth using our first pick to get him instead of drafting a kid?
No. Strongly doubt he'll nominate for the National anyway.
If he wants to come to Collingwood, he'll be available at pick 11 in the PSD. There are very few clubs picking before us who'll be interested (maybe North and Adelaide), and those small number that are, would be unlikely to take him if they knew he'd prefer to be elsewhere. Despite his undoubted ability, taking Cousins on next season is still a risk, any club taking him would want to ensure his complete happiness and commitment.
I know this sounds funny because Im not in favour of getting him, Id prefer to keep going the youth route because I believe our best chance for a prem will be in a few years.
HOWEVER if we do decide to get Cousins I would advocate getting Jeff White as well. His body is still fantastic and his possession stats this year were the best of his entire career, don't believe the media hype or lack thereof which comes with playing for a bottom team. He would also come cheap, and no I dont care if Cameron Wood was recruited with a top pick, if he's not up to it he's not up to it and so far hes shown nothing in the way of that being the case.
Anyway so to sum up, if we go down one route go the whole hog, if we go down another go the whole hog that way.

i would absolutely love to have him but i think its dangerous if we start to think he is the answer
It's no different to having Burnsy on the list. Now, I am not bagging Burnsy at all, just using him as an example of the above. The only difference, Burnsy played this year.
He's not THE answer. But at worst, he'd be a stop-gap measure that will help us remain competitive while our younger players continue to develop.
There's also every chance he'd still be around when we have a serious tilt in 2 or 3 years.
Picking Cousins up in the PSD is not a departure from the youth path. We would still be taking at least 3 players in the National and Rookie listing Keefe. The fact is, we actually need a top up of experience, especially if Burns retires as expected. Young players need time to develop, over burdening them with responsibility too early can be a problem.
Cousins will add experience as an added value, he has a great football brain and one only has to look at his departure and Judds to see the impact they had on the structure of the WCE.... makes me wonder about Kerr really.
If Ben can give us half the value that Judd has with Carlton we are in front in more ways than one.... no loss by having to trade is the biggest added value to the equation.
I am sure there will be clauses in Bens contract to cover both his and Collingwoods needs should he come to us.
I have a lazy eye and I think it is now spreading throughout the rest of my body
I have no problem with us getting him. But again, I think it'll be hard because so many teams will have to pass on him in the draft before we can snap him up. You have to remember, if he looks the goods to us he's gonna look good to other clubs too.

Not all clubs participate in the PSD.
St Kilda who are also interested get a pick after us
The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman.
Herald Sun did a bad photo shop pic on cuz in a collingwood jumper. I hope we do get him. If his hamstrings are good i think we could get 3 to 4 years from him.
