Oh rub it in why don't you! I was investing and was about 5K from having enough money for a decent deposit for a house. Now, since the crash, they're offering me 3c in the dollar. Thank you very bloody much. NOT HAPPY.

Woops, should have posted this in What pisses you off?

Ditto Kaylene, Well done Franki, when's the housewarming party? I'm sure you could get a flock (or whatever the collective noun is) of Nicksters around for a noisy beer or 12.

BTW, with the ute, I can probably arrange a straight swap for a Red XF ute, 5 speed manual with fairmont interior and a slightly bent bonnet. :P

thanks guys.

Sounds like a good deal, stui. There's just one minor detail I forgot to mention. Another 50 months of repayments at a grand each plus a residual of around 20 K :)

Oh, and Rudd made me happy today by doubling the 1st home buyer's grant :D How's that for timing? 8)

Well don't feel too badly about it. He's increased the first home owners grant but the price of houses is about to go up - as early as this weekend - and approximately by the amount of the grant itself so in other words, the grant is a useless piece of crap.

So you think there should be no grant Jac?

If the grant was worth more than the increase in the price of houses, it would be useful. Otherwise, it is pointless. That's like giving someone a $5 voucher to buy a $5 beer and then getting to the bar and the beer costs $10. Anyone seen the money I saved?

Perhaps.
But you assume that house prices will increase by the amount of the grant.
I don't know that will occur, but I defer to your greater knowledge on the subject.

Wouldn't it be usefully though in paying the fees associated with buying a house?

Like I said, if the price of housing doesn't go up as much as the amount of the grant, yes. Otherwise, no. I read it in the paper.
